That your speakers is inferior to the other pair of speaker she went listen with you at a friend's place?

My wife said that to me, and I am not happy frown

Have you heard these speakers?
"Honey,
I really like listening to music. Would it be ok if I tried to get a pair as good as you heard?"

or

"What? You don't know anything about quality sound reproduction. Shut your mouth you stupid dunce."
Do you know the brand and model of the speakers you were listening to?

I was there with her, the speaker are Triangle Geneses Quartet

But I have to admit, the sound from it are much better than my M60
I have an affinity for French speakers but have never heard any Triangles. I have heard M60's and they are great great great.

A suggestion that involves a lot of work. Bring your 60's over to your friends house. Maybe you actually like the sound of his room better.

Those are some fairly expensive speakers at just over 3 grand..

Look at the cost. These are 1,895 euros (1 euro = 1.36095 usd), or $2,579 US dollars. Quite a bit more than $1,040 for an M60.

Wid beat me to it.

Not that price has a direct correlation to sound quality. But that's what you tell you wife. "Those cost almost 3 times as much as the ones we have now."

Then you play with placement in your room, and see if you can pull out a little more performance from your current speakers. Because that's where the majority of the gain will be had, not in tossing more money in the speakers themselves.
I dunno... I think they're kinda fugly. A big zit on top and a boner sticking to the floor. I don't care what they sound like, I wouldn't have them in my house.
My speakers have the big zit on top. frown (tears streaming down lampy's face)
It needs some of the puckered gorilla rectum porting...lol

Really? Jay said that??? Then she's definitely the right one. You go Jay. An audio insult making a guy cry? Fantastic!
I think The Work here is done. Sometimes, I'm glad I'm on the west coast, because you guys take care of everything before I login.

I'm with Bob. You got a hall pass for an upgrade, whether it be speakers or room treatments.

One other thing to keep in mind, is his sound processing settings on his AVR. When I first got my setup, I liked some particular setting that expanded the sound stage. It provided a "bigger", but not an accurate sound. Later, I opted for something more accurate. If he has it on some such setting, this might also account for why it might sound "better".

I would say "don't call them better until Jball interprets the graph".

I've heard some Triangles at a local shop in town. I have to admit they were about the best sounding speaker I've listened to other than my Axioms. Which is better? Can't say with the limited experience I had with em. But there were very nice.
Awesome, Rob! grin

I hate to break it to you, but there are better speakers in the world than what Axiom makes. Probably not for for the price, but certainly in terms of absolute sound quality.

Be happy that you have a wife like mine who actually appreciates sound quality. Most of my friends' wives take a, "yes dear" approach to this 'hobby'. smile

A close family friend has a dedicated 2-channel stereo room in his home that consists of B&W 800's powered by a pair of custom-built monoblock amps, a suite of high-end sources, wiring that costs more than my Axioms, and comfy chairs. Plus he always provides good wine. No TV, no sub, no fancy-pants processing, just just glorious, perfectly dialed-in 2-channel audio. Listening to our favorite music on his system is, in a word, sublime. We genuinely feel our Axioms are superb, but it's simply outmatched by what he has. But we don't covet his system. We use it as our benchmark for evaluating everything else we hear.

Of course, his system may cost as much as my house, so there's that. wink

I do agree with the other post about taking your M60's to his place. If this issue really bothers you, that's an excellent idea. It could very well be that his room acoustically better than yours. It's very hard to objectively compare speakers in two different rooms.

But yes, sounds like your wife just gave you a free pass to upgrade "stuff" in your system. wink
