I'm fashionably late with this but... Dynamic range day 2011

I took just a quick look at what the "Challenge" was, and saw that it was a dynamic range of 8dB or more. This is an appalling commentary on the status of modern pop music, that such a range would be a "challenge". Assuming that this refers to the range between the quietest music level(not the noise floor during an instant of silence, if such indeed exists)and the loudest, I have some classical CDs where that number is a bit better than 50dB.

If there were any, then they at least might have some element of excitement in them, Chris. What I'm referring to might be a passage where a solo violin, flute etc., could be playing at a 50dB level very quietly, contrasted with a full orchestral crescendo at 100dB or a bit more.

I will never forget the day when me and my friend were going absolutely nuts in his livingroom to that AC DC song. She was screaming at us and we had no idea. How could I forget about those cannons!
