I googled CD Burner Software and of course a blue million hits. So...I thought I would come to info central and ask. Do any of you guys have a freeware reco? Right now just looking to burn some CD's for my new Son-in-Law's father. They came up from Dallas for the wedding and we entertained them for a night.

It was a night where I was determined to be the most gracious of hosts and I ended up talking with Grandma-in-Law in the downstairs great room. It was an extended tale of her latest passion - researching their family tree. Son-in-Law had taken the majority of the group up to the man cave where the Axioms live. They finally took pity on me and yelled down for me to come up and demo. I gladly accepted.

Cutting to the chase, Father of Son-in-Law (a gentleman of 70 years) was immediately enthralled by AC/DC which just happened to pop up on random off the ipod. So....I am going to burn a CD for him but would like to be able to arrange the songs in a certain order. There will certainly be some surprises woven into the main topic. Recos?

I know someone that created me a couple of custom CD's. When I asked what was used, she said she just used Microsoft Media. I haven't tried it.

I have that but it picks the order of the songs. I had a copy of Nero I liked on the computer I had that died. The only thing I saw on Nero was a purchase and download. Maybe that is the way to go - I just don't burn many CD's so I was hoping there was some decent freeware.

I just tried Windows Media and it put the songs in the queue in the order that I chose. There is a sort option to change that order. I just don't have any blank CD's to try it, but it seems like it would work to me.

I guess you could have a different version of Windows Media that operates differently. I'm using the one that came with Vista Home. Version 2006, 11.0.6002.18311

You can download the trial version of Nero burning rom which should be sufficient for the few discs you want to burn.

I've been using Burn Aware Free for some stuff at work and like the interface. Seems to work well.

Cat - I will dig a little deeper on the Windows to see if I have that option and just missed it.

Jake - I assume the trial Nero version is good for a limited time only?

Fred - thanks for the reco....I just downloaded it and it does look intuitive to use. I am going to give it a spin.....Rob

If you use iTunes you can always burn an audio CD from whatever playlist you make.

Honestly, that's what I was thinking, Dan. iTunes is free, lets you rearrange the tracks, and lets you burn CDs. Just don't let it import/organize your music or take over your audio types when you install it.

I think the free version of Media Monkey has a speed-limited burner.
