well my name is Ed and my father got the axiom M22ti's around 3 years ago.....i love them, they are AWESOME, volcals and guitars sound really sweet! But now a have a question? could i use the M3ti's as reference speakers? Though wouldn't the bass be kinda "weak?" so could i put together a rig using the M3ti's and the EP125 subwoffer? if anyone has any recomendations, please post them. thanks!

You could use Bose cubes as "reference" speakers, if you wanted to. When reviewers talk about reference equipment, they generally refer to gear they own that suits their tastes (and sometimes budget). So, if a reviewer is sent a new pair of speakers to write about, they can compare it to their own system as a "reference".

The M3 sounds GREAT, and has acceptable bass for a small stereo system. Goodsound.com used the M3 as its reference speaker for over a year...it will do nicely if it fits your budget and tastes.

The M3ti and M22ti sound quite different though. If you love the M22's, why not buy a pair of them? They show up in the outlet on occasion. If you bought them then, the price difference between the M3 and M22 would be very minimal.

I purchased a pair of M22's for use as studio monitors, and I must say they work very nicely.

I actually stumbled across a post by ian awhile back, in which he said that both the m3's and the m22's make good monitors (even used as nearfields) because of their neutral frequency response.

Either way, you'll definately need a sub!

well thanks a million to everyone! i think i might use the M3's cause every studio workstation has their own speaker "shelve-stands," and so if i were to use the M22's they would be to tall for the listener, and i guess i'll get a axiom sub. If anyone else has anymore recomendations please post them, thanks

Skip the Axiom sub, and get a Hsu subwoofer. (www.hsuresearch.com)

I can almost guarantee that the next poster will tell you to skip the Axiom and get a SVS subwoofer. Both are very highly regarded. You can't do better for your money than either of them.

Hsu is coming out soon with some new models that have simply incredible prices. The new "STF" models. That may be your best bet.

Good luck and enjoy!

You also might want to consider the M2s as opposed to the M3s. From what I hear around here, they've got a more similar sound to the M22s than the M3s do.
