Any one have good suggestions. I need a robe. Orvis has one and I like their liberal return policy (forever), but was wondering if any of you guys have something that you absolutely love.

Bob put you up to this, didn't he?

No, this is the first I've heard of this. There's a place near my house that has some really nice robes. It's a clergy supply shop, so it's expensive, but, still, some of the robes are pretty cool. What color were you thinking? And get a couple of those hats, too! A mitre or a zuchhetti are always the perfect accessory for robes, I think.

This is a neat idea, Chris. I'm guessing you're an autumn, so stay away from blues.

I'm really sorry. I didn't see the thread title, "Hotel Style."

I'm not sure, Chris, but I think "Hotel Style" just means stolen.

Or the Hugh type.

A nice judicial robe would garner you a lot of respect.
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/28/12 10:06 PM
Less so if you forget to tie it and it's open in the front.
Posted By: Rock_Head Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/28/12 11:18 PM
And if you decide to remove/steal a hotel style bathrobe when you check out they will eventually charge it to your credit card grin
Posted By: SBrown Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/28/12 11:24 PM
To hell with the robe, just go nude!

We're "helping", right Chris?

Amateur.
Posted By: Rock_Head Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 12:31 AM
Actually I read the fine print in a high end hotel that stated you were welcome to purchase the exquisite bath robes provided during your stay, or eventually pay for them should you choose theft smirk
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 12:57 AM
Yup, I've seen that at various hotels, too.
Posted By: Lampshade Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 02:44 AM
Tom,
this might be the least helpful thread in Axiom's long storied history. I hope this thread is in contention for the awards show(Hint: start new thread with the categories).
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 03:13 AM
Perhaps here?

Other than that, maybe contact a hotel that had bathrobes you like and ask where/if you can purchase one. One of my favorites would be the Chase St. Louis.

Maybe Dave Matthews knows? I'm sure he stays in a lot of hotels... you could ask him!

(Sorry I'm no real help) grin

it isn't, there are several others that are MUCH less helpful than this one.... There are at least a couple posts in this one that ARE on topic....

The more time you spend here, the more you will realize it is the nature of this forum.. laugh
Posted By: BobKay Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 02:54 PM
OK, now I feel bad for wasting your typing and spelling and stuff. The weekend after this, I will take you out on a robe hunt, seriously.

But I still think we should start at the Clergy supply store to get some style/fabric ideas and to "do your colors."

Pretty sure that groove was performed during the song "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)".

I've really gotta see the new generation Dr. Who.

I was big into it in the 1980s in high school and college, with PBS viewings and several paperbacks that I enjoyed. I guess Tom Baker was my favorite, though I liked Pertwee and Davison almost as much. They never seemed to show as much of the first and second Doctor.

So, for an old Who fan, who watched up through about Sylvester McCoy, where to begin with this new stuff? Jump in to current BBC America showings, or start a few years back at some point?

I was thinking the same myself... and have the same opinions about Baker (4th), Pertwee (3rd) and Davidson (5th) as Doctors.

I'd seen some of the David Tennant episodes, and they were pretty good.

Start at the beginning of the new Doctor. Netflix has it all on instant.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 06:27 PM
err, beginning of the new show, so with the 9th doctor, the dude in the leather jacket.
Posted By: Rock_Head Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 09:05 PM
Ken, I stayed at the Chase St. Louis last year. Ended up in a large suite. Great accomodations and robes.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 09:27 PM
Yeah, it's a real nice place. Good food around, too.
Posted By: Joe_in_SC Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 02/29/12 10:45 PM
So, have you made your mind up yet?
Posted By: Lampshade Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 03/01/12 02:50 AM
I went with this one.

http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=5H9C

I know, it's not hotel style.
Posted By: Lampshade Re: Hotel Style Bathrobe - 03/01/12 01:47 PM
I'm having a good day. The robe is normally $198. It is on sale for $154. I brought back a year old shirt I didn't like for $39. This morning I see that a pair of boots I bought last week are on sale for $66 dollars less. I get that credit. Final cost of robe: $49.

Also, while I was in the Orvis store ordering the robe I saw a really nice vest I wanted to buy for my wife. $98. When the clerk scanned it she looked puzzled and said "Interesting". It had rung up for $49. She happily said "Good for you" and that she was going to have to look into that one after I left. When I got home I checked the catalog online and it was regularly priced there.

It's not like that, Sean. I've been shopping with him. He always gets great deals. I've seen him haggle over pizza!

I can't envision the beach towel. I can't see it in anything but a hotel-style bathrobe.

I want to go out with Chris for cheap pizza.

He merely plays with clerks/sales people. He hammers car sellers.

He even decided not to ask out a very sexy audio saleperson a few years ago, because she was more important to him as a deal dispenser and he didn't want to jeopardize that.

And he remains as cool as a cuke during the entire process, 'cause he's always willing to just say no and walk out. It's great fun to watch.

You shoud see him in action at McDonalds and The Dollar Store!!!!

Well, shoot, now I just want to tag along for the spectacle!

It's like watching a master craftsman work. Like magic happening before your eyes.

The robe arrived. It is beautiful and comfortable.

I wanted to add this note about Orvis. I purchased many pairs of socks from them recently. They were very expensive wool socks. $50 bucks for a 3 pack.I don't worry about the price too much because I know they will last for a very long time and they really comfortable. I was putting one on and it tore a little up near the top. I email Orvis with the question: do I exchange the one pair or all three in the pack. The reply was Orvis is sending me a new 3 pack and I can do whatever I want with the others.
