If anyone notice the change to the streaming video section of the PS3 today, Amazon's streaming video service has finally been added. It's part PPV, and part unlimited for Prime subscribers. In other words, anyone can view their PPV titles, and also videos added to your library for purchasing some discs. Prime members also gain access to about 17,000 titles that have no fee to play.

Funny thing is last week Amazon had the Roku player as their Gold Box deal of the day. I picked up the new model to replace my old one. I pretty much just use it for Amazon. I even told one of my coworkers that if the PS3 had Amazon I wouldn't need the Roku. I think Amazon was trying to clear out stock before they released this PS3 app.

I'm going to try it out soon.

Good to know! Now I will use the smart apps on my living room tv even less.

I use them on my bedroom tv though (mostly Netflix and amazon)

I installed it, and associated it with my account, and saw that the lone title in my library, Time Crimes, was there. But haven't watched anything yet. Probably won't have time to really check it out until the weekend.

Does anyone know if this is available in Canada? I am not home to check at the moment.

How to access Amazon Instant Video from outside of USA?

For a company to offer streaming of movies they have to license the content from a studio. It's not possible to secure world-wide distribution rights, so company based in the US, like Amazon, generally starts there. Netflix was streaming for a few years before even offering access to Canada, but they are expanding to other markets quickly now.

I don't know if Amazon's service is available in Canada, but I highly doubt it's anywhere outside of North America at all.

It's not available in Canada yet that I am aware.

Strictly technically speaking... Depending on your moral standings, you may be able to use a proxy service based in the US to trick Amazon into thinking you are within their borders. I'm not sure how much effort Amazon puts into detecting and blocking that option.

However you would still need to finagle a paid account, which can be another trick as when you sign up, they may check your location via your credit card or other means.

Also, these proxy services do add some latency to your overall connection and therefore you may experience a poor quality or unreliable service. It seems to be popular for music services but streaming video is much more sensitive. Also, some services are getting smarter at detecting proxy connections. Some services allow it for customers who travel but others might make some efforts to block it.
