I came across this fantastic graphic that explains what a scientific theory is. Many people seem to think a theory is not much more than a guess. Hopefully this will help.

I was sad because they dismissed the pentacle with the pentagram in it. I think that assumption warrants further scientific study based on the fact that it has more pointy thingies.
