So, back when I upgraded the drive in my main computer to an ssd, I had these intermittent disk failure errors at boot. I was certain that I had a bad drive, but it has never actually died.

Over time, I've noticed that these errors only come when I turn on the display after I start the computer. Its completely consistent.

That has me wondering what could cause this. I'm using an HDMI connection between the computer and display (because the damned display won't give me a full screen image using VGA. Sony... go figure.) I suspect that the HDMI handshake with the display is failing and triggering this odd behavior.

Has anybody else run into something like this?

Sounds like a handshake and/or driver issue. Have looked to see if there is an upgraded driver available for the graphics card on the mfg's site?

I wouldn't use HDMI for computer monitors. Do you not have DVI or DisplayPort available?

Ken. I have a Sony display with no DVI in. The VGA in does not use the full display. Like I wrote before, stupid Sony...

I agree though. I'm not using the PC for Bluray playback, so there is no reason for HDMI.

As for it being a graphics driver issue, nope. I'm running the latest drivers. If it was purely a graphics issue, I would not be getting an HDD error. That is what makes me suspect HDCP.

I suppose it could be a bios issue. Its not really worth hunting this down as it is not a big issue to turn the display on first. Its just something that's bugging me.

I can't imagine HDCP causing an HDD issue. That's bizarre.

It is bizarre. I don't know what else would do that though.
