What's your dog's name again? I will be so less confused once I know that...

Admittedly, I own no axiom products, so didn't want to post it here initially.

Any religion that increases your empathy and patience for humans, even those who do not share your religious views is correct.

As for the Obamacare question, that's one of the topics I'm not an expert on.

Posted By: AAAA Re: The Expert's Corner - 04/10/14 01:12 AM
I was curious and found posts of his in another forum scolding a reviewer for not re-reviewing his tv after firmware was released, several months later, because the Panasonic vt60 scored a better review.

He just couldn't stand for it.

He has only been active online it seems for a year or so and started asking all the same questions we all would have- primarily about tvs. He internet buys and direct ships to Alaska based on online reviews.

He actually seemed pretty knowledgable with tv stuff. But at human relations, a Jedi he is not.

I decided to look him up after a pretty confrontational PM I got from him.

Who do you think needs health care the most?

I am just basing that on a 60 minute expose last weekend. People who are barely above the poverty line but have no money to pay for Obama care or even pay to see a doctor.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: The Expert's Corner - 04/10/14 03:19 AM
It's true that Obamacare didn't miraculously improve everyone's health care situation. Even in the best political climate -- which we are oh-so-clearly not in (hi, Congress!) -- that would have been nearly impossible. Here's hoping people in D.C. can cooperate and improve it over the coming years.

Canadian universal healthcare got of to a very rocky start as well. It cost the implementing government an election, doctors said there would be blood in the streets...

Things will improve.

Awesome, Mark.

I feel like we should refer to it as "The Affordable Care Act", but whatever.

Who's the Excel ninja around here?
Posted By: exlabdriver Re: The Expert's Corner - 04/10/14 05:00 PM
It seems that where ever universal heath care system is implemented, it is never adequately funded despite how much money is thrown at it. Kinda like government Postal Systems - many are bankrupt.

In the end, it contributes to the eventual draining of the treasury unless drastic financial measures are taken. I don't see that happening anytime soon. That is what is occurring in Europe & now in North America.

I'm happy with our system in Canada & unfortunately like many other boomers, I'm taking more out of it as I'm now I'm a senior. Our system is not nearly as dreadful as is touted by the media & some politicians south of the border. Emergent situations are generally dealt with immediately & effectively. Things that can wait - wait.

But again, how long can our system remain solvent?

'Soylent Green' - I haven't heard that term since I saw the movie in the early 70s, ha! I seem to recall that the subject matter was somewhat controversial way back then.

The tax dollars are probably out there, but politics being what they are these days, there isn't the political will nor real leadership to deal with these matters. The can just keeps being kicked down the road...

TAM
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: The Expert's Corner - 04/10/14 07:08 PM
Soylent comes from the book "Make Room! Make Room!" The idea for it was to have a simple, sustainable food source for the exploding population. Yeah, they got creative in sourcing some of the minerals, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

I remember watching The Jetson's, and other shows where a meal was a simple pill. That was presented as a bleak view of the future, but I always thought it was an ideal.

That's why I've backed the future food project that took it's name from the that infamous foodstuff, Soylent. Like many crowd-funded projects there have been delays, but it'll be finally start shipping on the 21st. I'm excited about not having to find some crap, fast food every day, and just be able to take two minutes to drink down serving that has 1/3 of everything I need for the day, and costs me just over $3.

I was considering posting about it here*. I will start my own thread once I have the product in hand.

*I've also started taking some nootropic supplements, and will comment on that too.

It's been developed to be completely flavor neutral (a little bit of vanillin, and a tiny bit of sucralose to cover the bitter/fishy flavors). So it can be flavored how ever you like.

If it costs some people more, and you get less "care," then what?
(just pokin' ya wiff me stick)

I think that if we just have a government that was more about things being affordable and really about caring for its people that we wouldn't have all this crappiness (ALL political parties included).

Immigration: Do some background check, make 'em legal.
Taxes: Charge everyone the same % and get rid of loopholes.
Healthcare: Help people get regular medical care that they need as long as they are citizens and give true emergency care because the person is human (only requirement).
Smacktards: If a politician does something that is just stupid, fire them. (This also applies if they do nothing productive.)
Cookies: Everyone needs a cookie from time to time, but don't make some political big deal out of what type of cookie we should get. We don't need to be micromanaged by our government or our cookies.

Of course, this may spark some political firestorm, but please note that I am just trying to be light hearted about this. I just get tired of everyone "spinning" (lying) to make themselves seem better than the other group. Or making up stupid laws for P.R., or manipulating the system that they are supposed to make better, just because they can. This has gone on for so long and will only get worse with each presidency and elected person to the house or senate. It is like we've fallen back to some childish group of kids trying to play "king of the mountain." Climb to the top, shoving everyone else out of your way. Why not help others to climb the mountain with you? I guess that isn't how politics works any more.
Posted By: Gr8_White_North Re: The Expert's Corner - 04/10/14 09:14 PM
Your senate cant even co-operate. The US needs to reform its government and change the senate by vote on a regular basis just like you do with the prez. Those old fuckers need to be tossed and fresh blood brought in.

Well said, Nick. That's not how politics or business works. You need to maximize your short-term gains without really considering much beyond the next year or two.

Society, the "system", Ayn Rand, etc. encourage us to be completely selfish, and many of our most basic instincts tell us to be, as well. It takes effort not to be.

Actually Alaska isn't the 3-hour sunshine state it has more Sun during the summer than any other state in America. If your from Canada I would think you would have heard of this phenomenon.
Which is why in the Summer we have the Midnight Sun Run because of so many hours of sun, I think our peak here is around 22hours of sunlight at the Summer Solstice and the winter solstice has only 2 hrs of Sunlight.

So it depends on the time of year. The only place that gets more or less sun is the North and South poles.

Enjoy the gossip as it makes me laugh that you make me the topic of discussion on an A/V Forum

Well our sun comes out during the day i'm not sure where you live. lol However we get a lot of daylight hours and sunny days during our summer and the temp can get up to 90deg for the max. Thats warm by my count.

The sun comes up , not always out. In case your too ignorant to understand, if its cloudy then its is not a sunny day even though we all know the sun is behind the clouds. And 90 degree weather a couple days a year is hardly noteworthy. Your condescending tone is not appreciated here but for some reason no matter how many times your told you continue with it. People who think they know everything really bother those of us who do.

Sorry, but you have totally misread the character of this company forum & seem not to understand the spirit & tone here.

Can you explain how I should discuss A/V topics then because apparently you don't approve of how I bring up these subjects. I should be a conformist correct? Because the nail that sticks out the furthest and has a different point of view always gets hit first.

I never thought that an A/V forum would be used as a blog. Your right i'm a sinner and i'm not perfect as is humanity. Please continue explaining how I should behave correctly as no one here has shown me any compassion or welcomed me. And as such I post according to the atmosphere in which I was welcomed, which has been hostile at best when first bringing into discussion how the Industry Standards for mounting surrounds is to place them 2' or more above the listener. To which I was bombarded with bullying for sticking so closely to the standards. Aren't we all trying to achieve perfection in our Systems?

People have judged me before even getting to know me or even attempt a polite conversation.

I've linked my sources whenever I could and tried to be as straight a talker as I can...

And you believe my tone to be unfriendly.
Well i've got news for you but your tone in response to me is neither friendly. But i'm trying to be the bigger man here and show respect which is why i've explained myself. You shouldn't bully someone who simply looks a things differently than you.

I never meant any disrespect and the tone here towards me has been anything but friendly except for a private message that I received from a member who's been here almost 6yrs. Explaining to me that people who don't agree with certain people are singled out and bullied.

However I wish nothing but respect and want a meaningful dialog in whatever manner it takes to actually get back to discussing A/V topics. What else could I possibly say to get people off my back? As i've already apologized to any that took my tone the wrong way.

As to other people, there will always be a person or two to arrive just to rattle our cages. (GT8Super, anyone?) Some stay, still, but most leave shortly after they stop getting the agita they seek (or desperately need).

I think Nick's "Shut Up Already" thread needs to mention names.

A note on experts.

Most real experts on anything do NOT consider themselves as such, as they know there will always be someone else who knows more, well, at least until their mentors are dead.

It is the task of others to elevate one to the status of "expert," not one's self.

It's like "what you deserve." You may get everything you ever wanted in life, in spades even, but it will always be up to others to decide what you really deserve.

BTW, teach, thanks for the info on the seasonal consequences of the earth rotating off axis. Miss Marsh was wasting her time in the 6th grade, since I could have waited until now to learn that.

This forum site is not like most others, A/V or otherwise. It is a true community. There are lots of people on this site who have met each other in the flesh, see each other from time to time over great distances, or found out that they live 3 miles from each other. Each has pretty much the same story; they first came here for info and advice and found out that there was also some fun to be had. OK, some people aren't much fun, but they NEED us, so we gladly let them stay.

We are not exclusionary. We look forward to new members, whether they are here to discuss A/V, stereo, music, movies ,chainsaws, mandolines, beers, or just to remind us that tomorrow is "National Roast Beef Day." Most engage in a bit of everything. Look at the "1st became a member" dates and you'll see how long some of these folks have known each other---lots with almost daily contact here for years.

Remember, it is very human for any "community" to circle the wagons when challenged. You also must remember that virtually each wagon is emblazoned with an Axiom logo.

So don't forget the "fun" part and hang looser (that's no comma and two 'o' s, right?). Of course, if you're way more amusing and informative laced up tighter than a trussed roast, go for it.

Look, I am not one bit a better or more likable guy than you, inherently. It's just that I already tried pedantry here a long time ago and it just doesn't work. These people would much rather be crapped on in a directly personal way (who knew?) and you've got to stay around a while and do a lot of back-post reading for the personal information necessary to accomplish that. THAT's how you get to remain mostly welcome here AND still be an asshole. Take a lesson.

Hall of Fame post, Bob.

Now, we just need a hard-R rated version of Kumbaya to go with it.

Oh, and today is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.

Would that I were HALF as perspicacious and articulate, Bob.

Jack, you're TOTALLY articulate.

You just don't have that "Oh noooo you di'nt" attitude! smile

Okay, everyone, how do you make yours?
Posted By: brwsaw Re: The Expert's Corner - 04/13/14 01:06 AM
Thick coat of Cheeze Whiz on both slices and an unhealthy slathering of margarine slowly pan fried for +/- 10 minutes until you can't take the wait.
Sometimes I spoil myself with balogney or siracha or a black pepper bath.
Add hienz and you're golden.
Be sure to make 2 or you'll regret it.

Now I'm hungry.

Thank you, Mark. I'll work on the attitude.

Don't forget the hand thing. It's integral.

Gotta have the hand!
