There’s a subwoofer placement optimization iOS/Google Play app that I just learned about from the Audio Unleashed podcast by Dennis Burger and Brent Butterworth.

Even if you have advance versions of Dirac, Audyssey, or ARC, it’s only a dollar, and might provide an hour or two worth of entertainment for tweaking your room or trialing alternate furniture arrangements.

My bass was already dialed in, and the app confirmed that my current sub location was fine for my seating positions, but it also identified some candidate spots underneath the television for a second sub.

Thanks for the info. Been awhile since I tuned my room with Anthem, will check it out...

This is my living room. It's 16' x 11' within an open floor plan layout that's 23' x 21'. The app rates my current sub location at an 8/10 when configured to only play 19-40 Hz. Interestingly enough, it recommends putting a sub either where the A/V equipment resides (as marked by the stars), or behind and underneath the sofa. Both are doable if I ever replace my sub or add a second sub.

I noticed an interesting quirk of SubZone; sometimes you get lucky with decor-friendly sub placement when you run hypothetical furniture rearrangements.

I rearranged my living room for Spring, and swapped the TV/LCR speakers with the subwoofer. I also slid the sofa 3 feet towards the window, and relocated the lounge chair from the far left corner to the near right side of the room. This has always been the aesthetically optimum room layout, but I decided to break up the monotony a couple years ago when I ordered my Axioms.

Before making the switch, I consulted SubZone to figure out the ideal subwoofer locations. The new location is a 10/10, and sounds like it too for all the new seating positions. I reran the AVR room calibration software, and it boosted the sub level 6 dB to compensate for the loss of corner reinforcement. Of all the places that a sub could be placed, it just so happened to be where the old TV location was, a happy coincidence.

I'm only going to keep it for a season or two, because good aesthetics is apparently incompatible with good acoustics in my room. I went from a 10/10 audio video environment to a 7/10; neutral tonality is the same but spatially it's a compromised arrangement. The best spot for the right surround speaker is somehow next to the sub.

Now to find a large floorstanding houseplant to add a visual counterweight to the empty corner next to the lounge chair.
