Anyone else find the redneck quote on the main page annoying? It makes the guy sound like an idiot. I understand they want it to sound like a normal buyer and not a reviewer, but the english is so poor:

"Ya'll" is an accepted colloqiualism coming from the South (of the US, that is).

the buying group i belong to puts out fliers. one of the southern guys was pi**ed when one of the printing folks changed his grammar, so yes that's the way they talk, and it's accepted. doesn't offend me i'm a yank from new england.

I find the term "redneck" annoying. I have no problems when the "you know you're a redneck when" jokes are told, because it is towards no one in particular. However, when someone uses the term while describing a particular person, that is along the same lines as the other ethnic slang terms. (you know the ones, every nationality, race, religion, and sexual orientation has them).
Lighten up and accept people the way they are.

And I agree: calling someon a redneck is not an ethnic slur. Besides, if you don't have a car on blocks on your front lawn, or beer cans strewn across your back lawn, or a confederate flag waving from your pickup truck (the one that actually works), then the label doesn't fit you.
I was just thinking that the person does not sound very smart and I think it makes Axiom look bad, just my opinion. I thought it was funny at first (in a bad way) and now I really wish they would change it to someone else.

I find "redneck" to be mildly offensive when used in such an insulting way. It implies a poor white person who must work outside to earn a living. More offensive is the term "white boy", which is currently very popular among some other ethnic groups around here.
The 'Florence Y'All' sign on the water tower started out reading 'Florance Mall'. Someone sued the local government for advertising a private business. The sign was changed to 'Florence Y'All'. The mall and water tower is in Florence Kentucky.

And I am 22, not 17. Please do not take cheap shots. I was not taking one against someone here at this forum, I was just trying to see if anyone agreed with me. To me, someone saying Ya'all in written text all the time is like someone from the Bay area typing "hella" or someone from Orange County typing "dude" or "like" all the time. I am from O.C. and I say dude way more than I should, but I do not type it in emails and posts. I think it would make me sound dumber than I already do.

Wierd, I know, but when you live in Central California and are from Southern California, there is a stupid debate between the different speaking styles of Southern and Northern California. American English is a hopelessly convoluted and deficient language. Most other civilized countries have different words for the second-person singular and the second-person plural, but not us. No no no. That's why I had been CRUSADING for formal adoption of "y'all" as the plural of "you".
Until, that is, it was pointed out to me by an esteemed colleague from the South that "y'all" IS singular and the appropriate version of the second-person plural is really "all y'all".
While I'd have to agree with Peter that, especially in the context of an internet forum, language is just a means for us to communicate with one another, I would also like to submit that there is elegance in precision and great writing is of lasting value. Repetition of poor or imprecise writing degrades our culture incrementally.
I am reminded of a couple of things - first, in an earlier life, I was a Historian. The grace, truth and deliberation with which even common people used to write letters remains an elegant testament to their life experiences. Particularly compelling examples come from soldier letters during the War between the States.
Likewise, the phrase "man of letters" has long been used to convey a sense of scholarly proficiency.
No, we're not writing for books or academia here. And I am tremendously grateful for the kindness, thoughtfulness and civility under which this forum operates; it is why I continue to reside here. AND, to others, how we express ourselves is often "who" we are.

Just a couple days ago, I was reading Lincoln's
Gettysburg Address -- Nov. 19th was the speech's 140th anniversary -- and I'm pretty certain we will not see so few words with so much power, emotion, and meaning in them in the foreseeable future -- especially from any US leaders. (You have to admit that's a fact whether or not you like Bush.)
