I just couldn't resist putting this up here after reading this.
Does anyone else see the incredible irony, hypocrisy and bandwagon hype all rolled into one in this article?

CBC article on US Mad Cow, recent border closure and link to terrorism?

I just wanted to add in my $0.02 since I'm working in the Agriculture industry so I've seen the direct impact of the Mad Cow/border closure in Canada. For one cow to have caused all these problems was rediculous. I believe the latest numbers was that it had cost around $4 billion to the Cdn ag industry (both directly and indirectly)!!! And that was one cow!!! But 2 thumbs up to the Cdn public for being the first country in the world to actually increase beef consumption after finding a case of mad cow.

The most frustrating part is the misinformation being passed on by reputable news sources. The actual possibility of contracting Crutzfeld-Jakob disease (the human version of BSE/Mad Cow) even after eating huge quantities of infected beef is about the equivalent to being hit by a meteor falling from the sky! Europeans ate tonnes and tonnes of infected beef and only 130 cases showed up. A good portion of these likely occurred naturally, which does happen, meaning Mad Cow disease is hugely blown out of proportion.

Sorry for the long winded post folks, but I'm very passionate about this topic and it pains me to no end to see all the misinformation that is fed to the general public. Please support your cattle farmers, whether they be Canadian or American. There is some really tough times ahead for them.

reminds me of the stupid flu hype. "Oh no! The vaccine ran out! I'm gonna die!"
