I'm getting ready to hook up my surronds, and I need to know if 16 gauge cable will be ok for a 40'run.

It depends on the speaker's impedence. This should tell you what you need to know.

Frank, I'm using 14ga for a 38' run and it works fine. If you want to scrarch a techno itch, 12ga would also work (probably a bit better). I got the wire at Home Depot and they cut it from a huge roll to the length I needed..

You're welcome. I suspect that, even if you were using the QS8s, a 40 foot run would still be OK. The QS8s are referred to as an "easy" 6 ohms.

However, should you ever want to replace your speaker wire, for any reason, moving up to 14 gauge, or even 12 gauge, would be a good idea. It's not that things would sound better, it would just give you peace of mind.

I have noname 16ga flatwire running about 43' and it sounds fine. As far as surrounds I could not tell a difference with that compared when I A-B them to a standard 12ga 6 foot run.
