Wow!
I'm probably the last person in the world to see The Incredibles (no kids), but I bought it today and just got done watching it.
What a BLAST! I wish the Sweeteart was not going to bed, I would watch it all over again right now. Cannot wait for her to go to work on Sat. morning so I can watch it again and this time, REALLY blast it.
That is by far the best workout that the system has gotten to date. Whew!
I just about peed myself laughing the first time the robot shows up in the jungle. The Big Manny Cat did one of those great cartoon leaps straight up into the air off of the couch and started with the Wiley E. Coyote paws-pedaling-in mid-air to get the hell out of the way.
I might have gotten away with not turning down had I not laughed so hard I woke up the Sweetheart.
That was a great movie.

check out jack jack attack on disk 2 its pretty funny.
yeah the sound and video were awesome i just got done watching it with the fam.
Posted By: Seabear Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/16/05 04:18 AM
yeah, I figured that would be pretty funny just based on the phone messages from the babysitter.
But I am going to wait until I can play it loud to watch it again.
BTW, I've never known a Giants/Mets fan. I always thought it was Giants/Yankees - Mets/Jets.
I'm in the first camp.

Just finished the Incredibles too. Great fun. Loved it. A really good workout for the sound system. Great LFE in all the right places. Pixar just really has it's "stuff" together. I feel like I should simply go out and buy anything the put out. Judging by the ending of the movie, it won't be too long before we see the Incredibles II.

Great news. I'm picking this up this week.

LOVED that movie. I saw it in the theatre (last movie I saw in the theatre! )
Posted By: TNTguy Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/16/05 09:00 AM
An "Incredible" sequel might be in the works, but if so, it won't be done by Pixar. Disney retains all the rights to the Pixar films when the two companies soon go their separate ways. Disney is putting together their own 3-D animation studio.

They will have some huge shoes to fill. Rumor has it they will try to tackle Toy Story 3.....

Posted By: Seabear Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/16/05 12:20 PM
Wow.
That is shocking and terrible news. I love the Pixar stuff. And I knew that they were splitting up, but I am surprised that Pixar let themselves be boxed into a deal like that, not being able to take their stuff with them.
Doubt that Disney will be able to pull it off without them, but who knows.
And I too am now thinking of going out and getting all of their stuff on DVD.
I'm almost ready to put it back on right now!

i havent seen the incredibles yet either, but i am sure i will own it soon on DVD. the next time we go shopping with our son, and he sees the big end cap display, it will go in the cart for sure.. but like you say, its ok, cause the pixar movies are incredible.

my son and i went to go see 'robots' last night at the theater. real good movie, typical for pixar. animation is superb, story is amusing, and the good guy wins in the end. very impressed with the vision of the animators. everything is very industrial and structered, just the way you think a city made by robots would look. and there were several sequences that i know are gonna sound great on my HT.

John,

Go to Wally World and get it before the end of the week.

$14.87 is a great price especially since it will go up to $19.97 very soon.

Make sure you check out the deleted scenes and see if you guys think that the guy in the Pixar hat with the glasses was the face model for Syndrome...freckles, blues eyes and all...

GREAT movie...Sarah even enjoyed it...Jamie (our 13 year old son) loved it the two or three times we saw it at the theatre. He was estatic when I brought it home last night.

Great LFE workout as well as surrounds...Gotta re-calibrate my system though...I think someone has been dinking with it...

I picked it up as well, great movie. Is it just me or did anyone else notice that the sound level (while being awesome) was a little quiet?

I had to turn it up higher than I normally watch movies. Nothing at all wrong with the sound quality, but I usually watch movies around -30 on my system, and with the Incredibles I was up to around -20 and higher!!

Posted By: nickbuol Re: INCREDIBLE (S) - Aspect Ratio - 03/16/05 07:41 PM
What is up with the aspect ratio for this movie. I checked the back of the box and it says 2.39:1... I don't think I have (personally) seen a movie on DVD that was wider than 2.35:1... Granted that even on a large (100" or so) you are only talking about 1-2 inches wider, but just seems odd that they would release it at what, to me, seems like a non-standard ratio.

Cool movie though.
Posted By: BrenR Re: INCREDIBLE (S) - Aspect Ratio - 03/16/05 09:16 PM
Nick - Cinemascope is 2.39:1 on 35mm. Even film shot Cinemascope is usually projected 2.35:1 (and vice versa) - theatres aren't worried about the slight aspect difference to the point where they'll buy a specific lens for a feature.

Think that's wide? The original silent films were shot 2.66:1 - now that's using all the available stock! (there were no longitudinal audio tracks back then)

Goes without saying, but 16:9 widescreen is 1.78:1.

Posted By: nickbuol Re: INCREDIBLE (S) - Aspect Ratio - 03/16/05 09:29 PM
I am pretty much sold on the idea of 2.35:1 for my theater screen, but I want to try out my projector on a blank wall to make sure and to get the size right for how I want it to look.

Thanks for the insight on the old silent movies. Makes sense too. I have a DVD I got a while back that talks about how movies have advanced (the DVD is called Thrill Ride or something) and they talk about how they started adding audio tracks and needing to reduce the aspect ratio to fit it.
Posted By: mwc Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/16/05 10:11 PM
Same here. The mix and overall sound is fabulous but I did have to turn it up about 10db over "normal".

There is an interesting update today on www.thedigitalbits.com (scroll about 2/3 down the page) James Cameron talks about the Titanic special edition (yawn) but there is some interesting stuff about his take on the HD-DVD, Blu-ray format war and an amazing project that he and George Lucas are participating in.

By the way, thedigitalbits is a great site for updates on everything DVD as well as insider info on HD-DVD and Blu-ray. I check it every weekday.

Ooh, an amazing project with Cameron and Lucas? Please let it be "Ten Paces, Turn and Fire!"... at least then the world will be minus one self-absorbed director.

George "I'll release the movie I want to release, you stinking peons!" Lucas and James "If my commentary on any of my movies is to be believed I started the industrial revolution and died on the cross for your sins" Cameron.

Cameron -- things exploding do not an artiste make.

Lucas -- we've created our own expectations. Just because he's a bazillionaire doesn't mean he's likely (or obligated) to make the movie we'd all like to see. He's making precisely the movies he'd like to make, and he's exposed himself as a hack who got lucky.

Oh, c'mon now... the Titanic probably did sink heralded by an ANFO explosion like he depicted.

He brought us Aliens... but also Rambo II
He brought us the Terminator... but also Rambo II.
He brought us Terminator II... but also Terminator III
He brought us Point Break... but he put Keanu Reeves in it... whoa, dude!

its kinda weird how cameron could have so many really great flicks, and then have just as many crappy ones.

and just for the record. even though it is the 'classic' over done, over bloated hollywood movie, i like 'Titanic'. it is well filmed, it made the story of a floundering boat interesting, and the sinking sequence is spectacular. i aint gonna put it on my top 10 list or nothing, but it is entertaining.

just my opinion...

OK, so I picked this up yesterday in the hopes that I could convince my 2 year old to watch something other than Nemo. We watch the same scenes because she wants to skip the scary parts like the one w/ the diver. I swear, I want to start a company that takes all DVDs and creates a best of compilation, taking out all the scary scenes in Nemo, Monster's Inc, Lion King, etc...

Unfortunately, the only scene she likes is when the Par family eats dinner. Since last nite, we've watched that scene about 10 times... Oh well, at least it's not Nemo.

PQ on this disk is phenomenal, IMHO. Looks great on my EDTV plasma. Love the sound effects too, lots of action. Maybe someday, I'll get to watch the whole DVD...

Then I'll take the cuttings and compile Faces of Disney Death... Musfasa being trampled, Bambi's mom being shot, uh... I just realized I've only seen a handful of Disney movies... little help here?

Posted By: snippy Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/20/05 12:30 AM
OK, man there are a lot of mistakes in this thread. But first, man Incredibles does rock, picture, sound features, everything. Not to mention the movie absolutely makes me smile with emotion every time I see Dash learn how to use his powers. Something about that scene just makes me so happy to see people finally making the type of scenes in movies that comic book lovers have only dreamed about for so many years.

Big John,
Robots was made by Blue Sky and FOX, the studios behind Ice Age. Not Pixar nor Disney. This is such a pet peeve of mine, people who think that just because it is CG, that it has to be from Pixar. Pixar movies are the best there is, Dreamworks movies are cynical and have no heart, they are often very funny, but to me just do not work on any near the level of Pixar movies. I havent seen Robots yet but really enjoyed Ice Age. I think it has a lot more heart than anything from Dreamworks and is also really funny. It just doesnt reach the perfection that I believe every movie from Pixar has.

Bray,
James Cameron did not direct Rambo II nor Point Break. He worked on the screenplay for Rambo II, but then had nothing to do with it. Point Break he did not write nor direct, only executive produced for his wife at the time, who did direct it. Cameron is an incredible director. His directing track record, to me at least, is flawless:
Terminator
Aliens
The Abyss
Terminator 2
True Lies
Titanic

To me everyone of these movies is a genre defining classic and no one understands the art of the sequel as well as Cameron.

End rant, but honestly, you guys need to go onto IMDB more often or something.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/20/05 03:07 AM
I'll agree with you on all counts but Titanic. Sure, it was decent, but "genre-defining" it was not. What genre would that be, anyway? Shipwreck?

Ok, you guys have me all excited about this movie.

Good News: I got the movie for my oldest son for a gift.

Bad News: It was an Easter gift, so I have to wait until next weekend to give it to him, so we can watch it....

Didn't get to the theatres to watch The Incredibles, so I am anxious to watch it, especially the LFE scenes...

Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/20/05 11:57 PM
Joyce and I bought it last night to watch with my twin 3 year old niece and nephew while my sister was visiting.

Man, I've talked about my short attention span in listening to music, but I don't know how you guys with kids and HTs EVER get to enjoy a movie!

Joyce and I will be watching it for real tonight... without worrying about it being too loud, too soft, who went poopies in the potty, who spilled their juice, who's jumping on my lap, who is chasing the dog, who is throwing the ball, who is throwing the dog, who wants to put their jammies on (and then immediately, want their jammies off, etc...etc...

Joyce and I love kids...we really do. And we plan on having some still (after 15 years of marriage)...but..........whew!
Posted By: curtis Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/21/05 12:41 AM
Getting a 3 year old to sit through a movie is tough. The breakthrough comes around the 4-5 yr old mark.

The kids and I saw the Incredibles in the theater...a lot of fun. We just watched it again at home on the HT system.....also a lot of fun. They are 7 and 5.

We have four of our grandchildren living with us, aged four thru ten. (Here's a riddle: We've had them for FIVE years)

The movie did a Better-Than-Average job of keeping them occupied for the majority of the movie.

As a baby-sitter flick, I'd rate it a solid 8.7
Posted By: NeverHappy Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/21/05 03:46 AM
Man I hate to sound like Simon from American Idol but I honestly thought this movie was just ok. The production end was great but the movie itself was just ok for me. Maybe all the hype surrounding it had me thinking I was in for the animated move of a life time or something. lol I thought Ice Age was a better flick.

I'm going to watch it again in a week or so and see if maybe I was tired or out of sorts when I first watched it.
Posted By: F107plus5 Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/21/05 04:05 AM
Actually, the reason I gave it an 8.7 was the fact that I was putzing around on line while it was on cuz the kids were quiet, and I Could.

I can't honestly say that I've seen it myself!!

Posted By: Craig_P Re: INCREDIBLE (S) ! - 03/21/05 05:44 AM
Snippy.

You're forgetting one Cameron movie: Piranha Part II.
Haha, oops. There goes both the excellent track record and any supposed mastering of sequels. haha.
I do really like Cameron though, but am no fan of Titanic. Not only do I dislike the movie itself, but it caused him to become obsessed with diving, and stop making features. I wish he had of done T3, and True Lies II would be nice too.

i finally got to watch this movie this weekend. i must concur with all the sentiments here, this was one great movie. not only were the sounds/audio effects awesome, it was a really good story.

i was surprised that this was one of the first movies that centered on, or was driven by the relationship between the husband, and the wife. most ALL disney type/animated movies deal with relationships between parents and child, or friends to friends, or young girl to young boy. this is the first i can recall that actually plots around the life of a couple that have been married over 15 years. i just really thought that was an interesting angle that i hadent seen before in this type movie.

and, not to mention the great audio in this flick. the sub gets worked, the surrounds get dang near exhausted, and the horn driven soundtrack gave the 60's a true test. i was very impressed with the mix of this movie.

for those who are still riding the fence, go get it.. definitely a good disc to use to 'show-off' the system. and the kidos love it!!
