Ok, there is a possibility I may be able to pick up either of these universal DVD players for nothing. (I earn points for Carrier products that I sell, and I can apply those points to different rewards)

There is nothing wrong with my current player, but this allows me to go to progressive scan, SACD, & DVD-Audio.

Are these decent units? Or, should I save up and actually buy one of the Denon units that everyone raves about?

My main concern is the SACD & DVD-A, as my current TV is old and doesn't support ProgScan.

Here they are:
DV-SP502
DV-SP800

At the risk of running afowl of the Ray and Seabear, I'm going to take a crack at this. I have a Pioneer 563A and a Denon DVD 2900. While the Denon is somewhat better than the Pioneer, it's not earth shatteringly better. I could have been perfectly happy with the Pioneer, but I received a DVD-A disc for Xmas which it wouldn't play, so I ordered the Denon after complaining for a week. I really don't think there is a big difference in audio quality from one manufacturer over another. I'm sure there are other opinions which will prove me wrong, but if it were me, I wouldn't break the bank on one of these players.

If it's free, what's the question? Grab the 800!

Onkyo is a good company, it is not like you are getting something Best Buy sells, like a Samsung (stay away from those, utter crap!!!!). I would definitely say go for the 800 and pick up some SACD's and DVD-A's on the way home.

And Don't let anyone tell you the Denons arent worth it, not only are they cleaner and better sounding in general, the SACD bass management is just so superior to those older units.
