So, some of you will recall I asked for Union Square hotel advice and such last year around this time as I was planning to head to the JavaOne conference at the end of June. This year I'll be out there again, but staying for several days after the conference (until the 5th). So my question this time around is, how is SF's fireworks display? I'm going to need to figure out what to do that night... I know it's *way* early though so, I'll probably bump this post up a month from now for more suggestions once it's fallen well off the front page.

Crissy Field is one of the better ones. But it's also the biggest. Take public transit, dress warm, and have lots of patience. There may also be something going on at SBC Park (SF Giants).

I'm also interested in this. Every year, my wife and I say that we're going to see the fireworks, but we've been scared off by the enormous crowds every time.

Grew up in the Bay Area and have watched many shows. The absolute best place to view the fireworks is by boat. Not sure if you can swing it but in my opinion that is the best. No crouds and you can drink.

That's a good tip. There's an outfit called Hornblower Cruises that serves dinner and drinks on the bay. I'm sure they'll have a few boats out on the 4th, but it'll likely be tough getting a reservation.

Hornblower Cruises are OK but if you want to see it right go with a private boat.

If the weather cooperates, it can be a great nite. The best one I've been to wasn't a 4th of July. It was the Golden Gate Bridge anniversary. We took a bus there and it was crowded, but it was well worth it. They did a fireworks waterfall from the side of the bridge. Very cool.

I was there on my Dad's boat. front row seats to that waterfall. By far the best show I have seen. Good call.

I have never gone there but can you see the fireworks from Treasure Island? May be a pretty good spot since the base is now gone and it is public land. Not sure how crouded it will get.

Also, there are a few dinners on top of a revolving, top story building that afford you a great view. Do not know the name of the place though.

I'm not sure that a private boat is feasible in my budget, although that does sound like it would be awesome. I'm going to look into this boat business more though I think...

Did some homework for you. Check out:

http://www.adventurecat.com/

Talked with the lady and it is $50 per person and you get a snack and 2 drinks for free. I am sure you could bring on some wine if you asked them. The tour will be about 2 hours or untill the fireworks are over with. Good start for ya.

Have fun!
