I have calibrated my Z4 as best I can and HD tv is very satisfying. However, many movies appear darker than I would like and a good example is The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I really liked the movie but some scenes, like when Lucy and Susan were walking with Aslan in the night were very dark. I missed this movie in the theater so I don't know if that is how it should be or if I need to tweak my Z4 futher. I watch on a Greywolf screen in a light controlled room.

With regard to King Kong, many scenes have what photgraphers would call blown highlights. Many scenes shot in bright sunlight have overexposed highilghts and areas in deep shadow. I don't know if this is a limitation of my Z4 PJ's dynamic range or if the theatrical release had the same look.

Any other PJ people think Narnia was on the dark side? How about King Kong having blown highlights?

I picked up King Kong the other day, but have yet to give it a spin on my Z3.

Pick out an exact time range in the movie (example: 1hour 33minutes and 45 seconds to 1 hour 36 minutes and 31 seconds), and I will report back what I see. Again, my example was just a randomly picked range that I made up. Pick out a scene that YOU noticed, and let me know. I will check it out Monday night.

As for Narnia, the Easter Bunny is bringing that for the kids, so I have to leave it shrink wrapped for another week.

I didn't seem to have any issues with the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. What did you use to calibrate your TV?

I had no problems with Narnia either, everything looked great.

Later this year extended versions of both movies are coming out. I'll wait until then until purchasing.

had no issues with either, and they both sounded/looked fantastic

I liked them both too. One other movie the son and I watched was Chicken Little, it too was pretty good.

I bumped the brightness / contrast up on my TV when I watched them. But I don't have any light control with a rear projection TV, so I tend to do that anyway.

Oh hell, just forget I said anything. I don't even know why I replied.

That's why I rented both those movies from NetFlix and will buy the extended versions when they come out. I screwed with Fellowship of the Rings.
