I have a Yamaha Rx-v595a from a couple years back. I just purchased the vp-150 and the m22ti's. The receiver has a switch in the back to select 1 of two options.

Option 1: MAIN, CENTER, REAR all 8 ohms or higher
Option 2: MAIN 4 ohms or higher, CENTER 6 ohms or higher, REAR 6 ohms or higher.

Every one of my speakers are 8 ohms, except the vp150 which is of course 6 ohms. So which of the two options should I go with??

You would set the switch to 4 ohms or higher. This will allow you to safely run any speakers from 4 ohms up to your 8 ohm speakers.

Will I get the same sound quality out of the fronts and rears with the 4 ohm or more setting as opposed to the 8ohm setting?

Also...a little off topic here but was wondering if anybody would know if the new m2i's would match well with the vp150. I ask this because I've purchased the 150 and plan to purchase the m22's but with the recent soundstage review and Ian's comments I'm thinking maybe I can get the same quality of sound (obviously not as high output) for less with the M2i's?

Asap, if you want to follow the owner's manual literally, you should use option 2. However, I wouldn't do this. When I have a 8/4 ohm amplifier switch and 4 ohm speakers, the switch stays at 8 ohms. The 4 ohm setting restricts the amount of current flow at high levels and possibly would affect the sound occasionally. It's highly unlikely that your 595 would do anything but run a bit warmer with the speakers you describe.

Since you previously said that you'll be using a sub, the steep rolloff of the M2is below 70-80hz shown in the NRC measurements should be acceptable. You would set them as "small" on your 595 and the sub would then be given primary responsibility for the low and mid-bass(don't forget to bypass the sub crossover if it has that option or turn it up to the maximum frequency to get it out of the way of the 595 crossover). The quality of sound should be nearly identical overall compared to using the M22s.

that's a good question about the m2i and the VP150. however, i think because of output levels, the m22 would be a much better match to the vp150 than the m2i.

the m2i may not be a bad match, just not as good as the m22. you might want to consider staying with the m22's. my opinion is that they are the best Axiom main speaker after M60's and M80's.
