So, I have finally given up on my HK AVR7300. I did a firmware upgrade which failed and thus ended up having to send the unit the HK for which they sent me back a new 7300 (refurb). I can tell its new due to the packaging style, and seals on the hardware. Anyhow....I have decided that I am not at all happy with HK customer service. This little project took 3.5 months. Now then...I will be disposing of this receiver and its time to get another.

I have been looking at a refurb Denon 3806 via dakmart...and or something else.

Opinions please.

Requirements:
1. 7.1
2. HDMI switching
3. Must be able to drive VP150, QS-8x4, M80'sx2 and EP600

Any and all advice appreciated.

Again, indeed!

In my receiver poll several months back, Denon was the clear favorite amongst receiver brands. I'm sure the Denonites will be along shortly.

The 3806 was a finalist for me before I went with Outlaw separates. I hear good things about the 2807 as well.

With those monoblocks (I have 3), the 2807 looks real good. But I see that the 3806 can be had for $750 on Ubid .

Only difference between ubid and dakmart...90 day warranty at ubid and 1 year at dakmart...

In my experience Dakmart is a terrible company to do business with. Without going into details about my experience I would simply recomend anyone check resellerratings.com. Dakmart has now worked its way up a rating of 1.12 out of ten from below 1 when I made the mistake of doing business with them 2 years ago. ecost is a much better choice.

Tarun, of course there are several which would meet your requirements, but I'll specifically direct your attention to the Yamaha 2600. Note also that your receiver wouldn't have to "drive" the EP600, since it has its own internal amp. In fact, the EP600 would take a substantial part of the load off the receiver by being mainly responsible for the lowest bass. This is actually a form of active biamping.

No decision yet.
The 7300 has to sell first....fleabay...

One thing is for sure. I will not buy a HK again...their customer service seems to be handled by 3 people and they cannot keep up....

Agreed... I have had a yamaha before without complaint. An RXV 995 to be specific. I then chose the HK route.
We shall see where we end up this time.
Although, the thought has occurred to me to add a few more Outlaw monoblocks and just get a good mid-range receiver.

These might not be too far away:

Monos in NY

And would work well with:

Denon 2106 or similar.

Well the HK AVR7300 is history.
So now I have a choice.
I can keep my HK AVR335 which I got open box for reallllly cheap....

The current setup is HK AVR 335 with 2 Outlaw 2200's for the M80's. Everything else is direct from the HK.

It sounds fine...but the volume is down to -8 to get some sound...hehehe. Some tuning may be required.

Do I keep this receiver and add some more Outlaws or just upgrade the receiver.

I have one video source..my dvd player that goes directly to my projector...so video switching is not essential...

Any advice...BUGBITTEN...chime in anytime.

Tarun, if it "sounds fine", there doesn't appear to be a compelling reason to do anything. The volume setting isn't of any particular significance.

I have to agree with JohnK here. If it sounds good, then you're there.

If your compelled to spend some bucks, add a mono to the center channel (the one that gets the most workout). Or, a nice 3 channel for the fronts.

If the HK isn't getting too warm from your listening levels, you've found the right mix.

I agree with JohnK also...and Bug.

Here is where I am headed. I think having amp's as a permanent solution and a low end receiver for processing is a wise decision.

I am considering adding some more Outlaw Mono Blocks to the mix so as to be able to switch receivers without worrying about power, and or output levels.

I already have 2 2200's for my fronts, perhaps one for my center would do it. The rears (4x qs8) can run from most any receiver without too much of a power draw.

If you are looking for an inexpensive receiver, there is a brand new Marantz 4600 HT receiver (silver) at link for $269.99. It has the full 3 year factory warrantee. I have the 4500 (last year's) receiver, and it's very easy to use, including the universal remote that comes with it. Just a thought!
