I’m always changing my mind, including screen size and height, so I banged out some speaker stands for the 22’s. Figured I’d share some pics in case anyone has the same dilemma as I. When I swap out the screen it will be wider and a little narrower in height, so I’ll mount it a bit higher off the floor. No I can just raise the speakers as needed. I had them sitting on the little table, but they just didn’t sound right being that close together. Between JohnK and Allan’s suggestions of what to do with them, the little fellers are sounding mighty fine. The center channel sounds pretty kick ass with them 40” apart and right up against the wall. I never would have thought that moving them around a little would make such a dramatic improvement.

You can’t really tell by the shots, but they share the same angles of the 22’s. I had to make a swoop in the rear to keep them from being too tippy. A little Velcro holds them on the stands.

While I was feeling creative, I made the DVD cabinet too. I couldn’t find anything that would maximize the space in the closet that I had left over. It will hold right at 700 dvd’s and I’ve got about 500 now.

Then I got the Prismatic 1400 anamorphic lens mounted too…..man, what a pain in the but mounting and setting that thing up was. I had to make the bracket big enough to span the floor joist and be able to support the weight of the lens and the projector.

Now if that 2.35 screens and VP 50 would ever show up, I think I can call this HT project complete. Well besides paying off the credit cards anyway.

Wow Mike those are some awesome stands. Your talant for wood working is nothing short of amazing. I can see you getting some pms about making some for other M22 owners.

This may be from out of left field, but - how do the M80s sound with the couch partially blocking the left one? Especially in stereo listening? I'm thinking of getting a pair but my wife insists on a chair being in the room that will sit in about the same place as your couch and so I'm hesitating.

Ken…..every time I look at that speaker behind the couch I want to move it. But it doesn’t ‘block’ the sound for lack of a better description. I did actually move it and its brother around some but I couldn’t tell any difference from where it is now to further into the room. The most improvement I had was moving it about 12” away from the back wall and about 18” away from the side walls. Ol’ Rick Farmer suggested I not have them equidistance from the walls, where I did have them at 6” and 6”. After I move them to where they are now, I can’t tell any audible difference when I move them around unless I move them back to the walls. The area rug helped big time too. It really toned things down. I’m pretty happy with everything the way it is now. I was just listening to DSOTM in SACD 8 channel direct grinning ear to ear.

Another "wow !!!". Those are truly beautiful.

Looking at them I just had a flash -- work with me now -- of tiny hydraulics in the stands so that in dark scenes they could pop up into the screen area and give you a better centered soundscape without intruding on the image.

Actually the "flash picture" was the music reaching a wild crescendo and the speakers rising up over the listening position like one of the animations from "The Wall", but if I posted *that* you would all think I was nuts.

Those are sweet stands. I know you like to downplay your skills, but anyone would want to be able to "bang out" projects like that. You gots da skillz.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The trick to working with wood isn’t so much skill related, but knowing how to use the tools and building a bunch of jigs and accessories for use with the tools/machines. Then you just let the tools do the work for you. Finishing on the other hand is something that does take skill. A skill that I don’t have or ever will have. I don’t have the patience for it. I can’t even wax my vehicles without using power tools……

I did think about mounting them to the wall, but once they get mounted, their there for good. I had a sketch of an adjustable wall mount I was dreaming up, but I just couldn’t figure out how to make it look good with the slides and dovetails exposed. I wanted it to move up / down, right / left. – So I gave up and just built the stands.

Do you have your M22 twins running in parallel on the same amp channel, or are they powered by two individual amp channels?

Yes Jason, they are running parallel off the center channel amp in the AVR (HK 7300).

Wow Mike those stands look awesome ... but after seeing the work you put into your absolutely beautiful home your skills do not surprise me. I really like the fact that they are not only gorgeous but they are functional to boot, damn fine work my man!

I'd still love to get up your way and take a listen to your dual M22 setup for your centers, I'm bettin' they sound mighty fine.

The lens is pretty trick Tom. I can’t really test it out yet in stretch mode until the Firehawk screen shows up. If I shrink the image by un-zooming and then stretch it with the lens to the width of the screen I have now, I can not see any distortion or any other undesirable effects in any way. But I’ll have to wait and put it through the tests when the other screen gets here.
