Since your room is not huge, I think the 22's would be a good route, unless you want to get floorstanding, but they may not fit your budget even with the FO pricing. I would also recommend Qs4's or Qs8's over bookshelf for the left/right surround positions...

I realize this, however I don't think it will be beneficial to use the QS8's because I want direct radiating speakers for rears. If I had QS8's for rears they would have to be mounted directly behind me, which would not be good apparently...I want a seemless soundstage and no breakups. Let me know what you think...Thanks.

Ryan, welcome. I'm also of the view that in a 5.1 setup the surrounds should be QSs. These are side surrounds in a 5.1 setup, not "rears" and should be about 6' up on the side walls and slightly(maybe 2')farther back than directly to the side of the listening position, to give a little more back imaging in the absence of actual back speakers. Don't know why you suggested "directly behind me".

Are you're reffering to having to put the QS8's behind you due to the room limitations? If so, there's been people in the same situation who have mounted them in the rear with great success.

Add me to the list who thinks the Q4 or Q8s are a much better way to go regardless.

So yall are saying even if the speakers will have to be placed directly behind me, it will be better? My wife and I sit on a sofa that is flush up against the back wall of the room. Also on the left side, it opens direcly into the kitchen with no wall whatsoever. I could mount them on the wall and just have speaker wire run into the back of them. I was just under the assumption that you would not get the best sound quality by doing this. Let me know. Thanks.

I possible could you show us a drawing or picture of the room? You can use photobucket which is free to host your pictures, that is how we do it. Anyway, there are many people that are in a similar situation like you with the seating near the back wall. Many of them still place Q's spread out on that back wall. For a 5.1 setup, you don't have rears, you have left/right surrounds which are supposed to be to the left/right of you. The Q series, even when mounted on the rear wall, will envelope you in the surround sound, which is the point. Direct radiating speakers are good for rear channels when you listen to music, but don't give you the same experience. Also, the Q series are very good for music, in my opinion.

Are you saying you can't mount the Q's spread out on the back wall? Because each speaker has 2 tweeters firing to the left and right, this would be a better experience in my opinion, and the point of the whole design.

Will bookshelfs work, yes, but they won't give you the same experience, and they also take up more room.

My Living Room

Here is a link to some pictures of my living room. When I get a subwoofer it will be easier to just put in the corner on the far end of the sofa if I use the QS8's. Let me know what yall think. Would I just mount them flat to the wall? Approximately how high up would you mount them in this instance. (use the picture frames as a reference) Thanks...

Okay Ryan, in your setup the QSs would work well on the back wall but they wouldn't be "directly behind" you. Yes, mount them flat up against the wall and separated as much as possible, to within maybe 6" of that right sidewall, and a similar distance on the left so that they'll be more left/right side surrounds rather than being in back. It's generally suggested that they be about 3' above ear-level, which might make their tops about even with the tops of the picture frames. The sub location wouldn't depend on the QS locations and the right front corner behind the TV might be a logical spot to try first, sliding it out a little to the left if the corner was too boomy.
