I am currently powering 4 m3ti and 1 vp150 with the harman kardon avr 340. It has a rating of 55wpc. I am curious if that is adequate to power them to their full potential. I seem to always want more...

Hi idlehands,

H/K AV receivers' power output tends to be very conservatively rated, so the 55 watts per channel should be ample. I presume your room size is "typical" --2,000 to 3,000 cu. ft--and we are not talking about an 8,000 cu. ft great room, with vaulted ceilings.

If the sound you are getting is clean and free from audible distortion, then your H/K is OK.

If upgrading to more power will give you greater peace of mind, then go ahead. You can't hurt anything. But remember that to make any meaningful changes in power output and maximum clean listening levels, you need to double or triple the amplifier's output power to 110 watts or 170 watts per channel.

Regards,

I had a H/K AVR110 with the set up in my sig and it powered everything wonderfully. I purchased the 4600 almost 1.5 years ago as it was a great price and could do much more than the H/K feature wise.

Don't under estimate the H/K's power, some have driven M80's well with that model.

My 525 is working just peachy with the M80s!

Thank you all for a little peace of mind...I have been very happy with the Harman/Axiom sound. I have had these speakers for almost 4 years now and just recently got the HK 340. It is like having new speakers when compared to my older Yamaha, which I thought sounded pretty good! I still get amazed, and love to have people over to watch movies, nice and loud.
