Hello all,

I am having problems with my new Denon 2307ci: While using any of the inputs I have (ps2 - digital optical, dvd player - dig. co-ax, tv - digital optical, iMac - digital optical) once in a while the center channel will fade to where I can barely hear it. I am aware that different audio signals will play through the center channel, or not, depending on the data. I've made sure I am passing either dolby digital or dts signals with my dvd player/ps2/tv, and 5 channel stereo with my iMac, or any cds. I've moved all receiver audio levels to default.

It still does it: fade out whatever signal is going to the center channel for maybe 15 seconds, then it goes back up to normal levels. It happens about once every couple hours. I am using a 6 ohm speaker, which shouldn't matter. Everything is connected via banana plugs.

Anyone have any similar problems? Am I missing something? I brought it in to get checked, and of course they can't reproduce the problem. So frustrating. I immediately thought about a bad amp. They can't find anything. Should I try another speaker? I've been thinking about getting an Axiom center channel for a while.

my denon can pass test tones through each speaker.
I can do it from the remote.
maybe the next time yours fades out, you can quickly put the thing in test mode, and see if the center channel is fading.

Of course you could just get an axiom center speaker, it couldnt hurt

You don't say what brand of speakers you own? You want your left/right speakers to match (brand) your center for best voice match and sound stage.

Sorry, can't help on the fade in fade out. Have you tried hooking a different speaker temporarily to that channel to see if it happens, that would rule out the speaker.

You have a strange problem, but one I'm sure one of us can lick.

Is it just fading or getting a little static-y? It could be a failing connection between the receiver and the center channel. If you terminated the wire yourself or if you are using bare wire, I'd check the connections just to be sure.

Thanks for the input as always. I have m60s for fronts; and Wharfedale center (Diamond 8), and surrounds (Atlantic 200). Not having any problems with the surrounds. Nope, there is no static. Just a fade in and out. I built my own cables, which are soldered. I'll check the center channel cable again. And yes, this is a great excuse to finally buy an Axiom center channel...

Matching your center to your mains is important, but your description of fade in/out is puzzling. No center speaker, whether it is the same brand or not, should have fade in/out issues.

It might drive you crazy as you watch tv, but wire one of you L/Rs as the center to test the channel.
