My setup is Marantz SR8001, M80/VP150/QS8/EP500. Before this, I had a Bose Lifestyle 25 (I think that's right). I couldn't be happier with the sound quality. But I wish the EP400's were available as the EP500 is *WAY* to big (sound wise) for my 20X40X7 room. Before I purchased my Axiom's I watched the Cars DVD about 50 times. No joke. I have 4.5 year old and a 3 year old boys so we watched it MULTIPLE times each and every night. So I pretty much know every sound from the DVD. After connecting the Axioms, I started to hear sounds I never heard before. In the crash scenes, I heard parts flying around etc. One night, I was lying on my couch reading my magazine as the kids were watching the DVD yet again. I actually jumped up and rewind the DVD just to make sure what I heard were real. Because I know the DVD so well, it was simply amazing hearing sounds I never heard before.

Another note, during March Madness, every time someone dunked, I heard the rattling of the rims! Even my wife said "what was *that*!"

Anyway, I consider this money WELL spent. I'm glad I was able to stumble on to Axiom during my research!!! So if anyone is on the fence about purchasing an Axiom system, GO FOR IT!
I'm glad to hear your enjoying your Axioms. I find it hard to believe your EP500 is WAY to big for your room, are you sure you don't have it running to "hot" (gain to high)?

Your room is almost 7,000 Cubic Ft, mine is 8,000 (30 x 31 x 9). I've owned the 350, 500, and now the 600 and the 500 and 600 are great for larger rooms.

I'm wondering if you just have it calibrated wrong?
Han, good to see how much that you're enjoying your Axioms. As Randy pointed out, you may have to recalibrate the level of your EP500. I use mine in a much smaller room than yours, and after an initial mistake in the settings I swept up the plaster and broken glass and turned it down a bit.
I guess technicaly if he is getting that kind of results, then it is too much (by his definition) for his room. Although it doesn't hurt to have a little extra headroom with a sub.
I watched Cars last night. Had a smile ear to ear the entire time.

Mater - "Tractors is so dumb."
"My name is Mater...Yeah, like tuh-mater, but without the "tuh". "

I really enjoy how Pixar mixes the audio their films. The voices match sonically where they are on the screen - all of the dialog doesn't come from the center speaker, it usually all is a mix.
Yes, all Pixar release DVDs have had excellent audio and video quality. The Incredibles is a favorite of mine.

I tried the Audessey and promptly threw away the results. I got an SPL and used both Avia and Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune Up DVDs. Don't get me wrong, it sounds terrific. But when I was watching the Flags of Our Fathers, I thought my condo would shake apart! I had to turn it down quite a bit to make it reasonable. I don't want my neighbors giving me the evil eye every time they see me!
My first go with Audysey and my 8001 didn't turn out so great either. I had better luck the second time around and love the results.

I ran through it tonight again. The distances were spot on, and the sound isn't bad either. I didn't get to run Avia/SPL again, but it sure sounds good. I believe I've changed my mind about the Audessey.

Hansang,

When your condo was shaking, was your sub set to the calibrated setting that you got using the SPL meter and Avia/S&V HT Tuneup? What dB was it calibrated to?

I ask because I have an awesome sub, but want people's preference on how they use their sub (i.e. calibrated setting or louder than calibrated setting)

Rodney
