Hello everyone,

Trying to determine if I can use M22's along with VP 100 Center as my front wall in a 3.1 system to start. My family room is 16W x 20L x 10H. Power will be supplied by Yamaha RX-V861 @ 105w per channel. Low-to-medium volume listening on average. I will be adding rears in phase 2. My usage is mostly audio CD, DVD-A. Also will be used as HT for DVD movies on occasion.

Can I use M22s or do I really need M60s?

Thanks in advance.

I think it depends on how far away you plan on sitting. I have M22s and VP100 in a similar size room and sit about 10' away and everything sounds great. However if you plan on filling the entire room and not just the sitting space then the M60s would be in order.

Thanks jake. Seating will be mostly 8-10 ft away, especially for movies. Entertaining means people will be all over, including in the kitchen which is connected via the mostly open wall at the back of the room.

Then M60s, hands down.

The best way to fill another room with sound is to place speakers in that other room.

Which leads to other logistical headaches too.
Sometimes all you need to do is turn up the volume.

That would constitute an environmental health & safety hazard in the room that contains the speakers .

Yeah, just have the people in that room wear some PPE.

And your point is?

I actually have a video of my dog sitting in the living room of our old house while i was firing off some Nickleback at about 110dB peaks (12 feet measured). I was in the kitchen 20 feet away so i cranked it up.
She just sat there about 10 feet away...sleeping.

If it's the dog in the Avatar, it kinds looks like it's earless.

Thanks chesseroo. I just read an m60 review from January that compared a bit to the author's m22's...I'm convinced on the M60's at this point.

Oh yeah, it didn't hurt that the wife just approved the floor standing i/o bookshelf, which was one of my early sales strategies, if you know what I mean!

Everyone here knows I'm a dog lover. I'm bashing the photo, not the dog!
