I have a fairly small listening area but had been offered M50's at a very low price. How would this fit in with the M^0's as my fronts, the M22 as my center, and qs4s as my rears?

That sounds pretty. What do you have now?

It would probably work out ok. If your saying the m50's as your fronts.

No, I think he's talking about M50s as his side surrounds. I think I'd probably use them as rear surrounds with the QS4s as the sides. Which also means they're not going to get much use.

Considering the typo in the OP I will guess the '^' should be a '6' and he has M60s as fronts and is wondering if the M50s will fit in anywhere. As was mentioned rear surrounds would work if you have the room and an avr capable of 7.1 or is there any other room you would want some sound in?

6 for ^ as typo makes sense!

Yes,
It should read m60s. The m50s would be used as sides. The again I could go for m22's. I thought the sides should be of a more conventional design, rather than the omnidirectional design of the qs4's.

It is the other way around. The side should be multi-directional as they emulate a whole wall of speakers in a theater while the back channels can be (are even frequently recommended) directional.

If you haven't done so yet, you could check the following Axiom link: http://www.axiomaudio.com/home_theater_layout.html

Like Eric said, the QSs will give you a more diffuse sound. It will make the surround effects harder to pin-point. This is actually a very good thing for surrounds as it makes the experience more realistic and convincing. I had direct radiating speakers as surrounds and I now enjoy the QS8 effect much more.
