I've mentioned in other threads that a Floridian friend of mine set up this unique system and he is loving it. As you can see from the pics below, he did not want to obscure the picture windows or have any speakers on the floor. The solution recommended by Axiom was this speaker configuration with the VP150s pointing down at the seats.

Ooooh! Aaaah!

WOW! This actually makes a lot of sense now.

Altough... where's the TV?

See that line under the VP150s? I bet that's a retractable screen.

I believe its a retractable 11' wide Dalite Cinema white. He and I both ordered a JVC-RS1 to go with the screen last March when I was helping him plan the HT. The projector didn't get delivered until June and he finally got around to installing the speakers /amp a few weeks ago.

I should have added 2 EP500s are part of the system.

A projector with all that light? \:\)

for sure that is a retractable screen. See the projector?

Awesome setup!!! Where is the sub?

Oh yeah! I had missed it.

The projector has a 15000:1 contrast ratio and is incredibly bright. It works at dusk and later.

I'll get him to send shots of the subs. One is on the floor behind a pillar behind the projector screen, the other is on the mid left wall behind a pillar roughly below the mid qs8.

I haven't heard it yet and he is on my case about coming down to help calibrate the audio and video. I may try to swing south later this month.

Interesting setup. I think I would have opted for bookshelves up there vs VP150s to get deeper bass but it does look impressive. Looks like a very interesting house as well.

It's a large beautiful home which he has been constructing since Hurricane Charley destroyed his place in August, 2004.

When I first walked into the empty room I suggested:

1. 3 M60s up front (1 behind the screen) which was immediately nixed because of the panoramic floor to ceiling views.

2. 3 M22v2s up above.

A call to Dwight and a long conference call resulted in this recommendation. The concern was with dispersion from above using vertical speakers in a relatively large room. Its a unique setup and until I hear it I can't say definitely how it sounds. I can tell you my friend loves it and his wife is pleased.

Though neither the house nor the speaker setup is my cup of tea (location and view are to die for, however), that they are happy is all that matters.

Thanks for posting. Looks like he may be able to use some room treatments. Please let us know how it sounds.

Room treatments are not going to happen in that room. I'm sure the glass makes it a reverbant environment.

Hey!! Why are you living in my dream house?

Gorgeous!

Yes its a lovely comfortable home which incidentally can withstand 175mph winds. \:o

Here is another shot showing the 3 VP150s, screen and an EP500.

This should be called "personnel megaplex" instead of "home theater". It gives me a few ideas for when I shop for a house in 12-18 months.

Enough with the system, I want to see more of that view! Wow, what a home....

Are those 150s shunt-connected?

You are doing your friend a disservice by not educating him about the virtues of a few large subs \:\) .

It is a breathtaking home, and a very elegant and ingenious HT installation. Fantastic.
Posted By: jakeman Re: 3 vp150s, 4 QS8s and A1400-8 system - 11/08/07 07:27 PM
He has 2 500s. The other one, not in the picture, is on the left side below the mid-QS8 near the seats. He has plenty of bass and headroom with a pair of those subs in that large room. However, with those open areas it won't pressurize the room and give that visceral impact and slam the way the 500s did in my sealed HT. I'm not sure he cares.
Posted By: Mojo Re: 3 vp150s, 4 QS8s and A1400-8 system - 11/08/07 07:34 PM
Well, if he's never felt that visceral impact, he can't possibly know what he's missing. I didn't realize that was a 500. It appears diminutive in that room.

Standing inside next to a floor to ceiling window while you watch a hurricane approach has GOT to be breathtaking.
