My Dad calls me and informs me he's bought...this:

52" 1080p Sony LCD TV

When he bought the TV, that gave him $700 store credit off of any home theater equipment at Best Buy. I'm pretty sure he got these things from what he said the price was over the phone:

Klipsch Quintet SL Speakers
Klipsch 10" Sub
HK AVR-247

Now, of course, I'm inclined to tell him to return the speaker system (he has to have at least $700 of audio merchandise purchased from best buy) and get a setup with Axiom VP100, M3's, and QS4's...which would be almost the same price...for way more punch and quality. Since the sub and receiver are pretty much free...that's a good deal!

Think that's the right thing to do? I can't find reviews anywhere about the Quintet SL system, but it looks to be the same *kind* of sound as the previous setups, which I guess are decent.

I was thinking that he could return the sub and get a nice DVD player instead...but I think that Klipsch sub is decent...especially free. Is that sub *crappy* by any means?

Any tips on what to do? I'm only home for a couple weeks before I leave for China (Jan 3rd)...so if I did decide to get Axiom speakers I'm not sure that they would get here in time for me to be home to set them up.

Thanks my audio friends! Good to be around again! School is pretty demanding...I just finished a project where I met with my group for 60 hours over the past 2 weeks...insane!

Here is a small summary of the speakers Klipsch Quintet SL I would give them a listen, it doesn't sound like a bad setup.

I have no problem with Klipsch products. Most are fine for HT, but not my personal taste for music...I find them a bit bright.

Its just like the TV isnt perfect in that those model Sony's dont fully resolve all 1080 lines of a test pattern or perform inverse telecine well. But if you just sit and watch it, I doubt you will notice that. Its a good TV and a good surround system....nothing is ever perfect.

Your dad looks like he got a good deal.
As all the equipment was essentially free, it was a good deal. I too, find the Klipsch to be bright/overly forward, but when they are free it's a good deal. I am sure he will enjoy them. It could be much worse, he could have gone for a Bose system;\).
