In order to prepare in advance for a second VP150, I did a little expirement this morning. I switched my setup to 6.1 and placed the extra QS8 at the top of my new unit while moving the VP150 back under the screen.

Results are surprising. The VP150 anchors the center channel very well while the QS-8 re-centers the image vertically while adding some width to the channel. There is little chance I will actually go for that, but if any of you have the opportunity to try it, it's actually worth a listen. Even music gets a deeper soundstage (3D) while retaining precise positionning. Can't wait to compare with a second VP150.

Any of you had tried this combo before?

Hi Eric,

I thought I'd tried every possible combination of Axiom speakers when I first joined the company and did a lot of listening tests to the entire line.

But that's one I didn't try. Full marks to you for the experiment. Very interesting.

Regards,

I never considered trying that. That sounds interesting.

Eric, it would also be interesting to try the exact same thing with one of the QS8 woofers pointed at you.
I tried it, for fun, but it changes the sound. After only 5 minutes I got tired of it and put it back up.

I am not sure the QS8 itself is the right thing, but a new type of central speaker with additional angled side-firing tweeters might be worth an expirement in Axiom's lab (if they haven't done so yet).

Once I hear two VP150, this could become moot too! Altough I did like that the central channel became very uniform accross the whole sofa. Usually, there is a slight loss of 1/2 or 1db.
