Quick question. Are the tweeters and drivers in Axiom's lineup the same? Like is the tweeter in a QS4 the same tweeter in an M80?
The QS4 is the only model of Axiom speaker at the moment that doesn't used the 5.25" woofer for the upper range woofer. I forget what size it uses.
It's got 4.5" woofers, and the Audiobytes have 3.5" woofers. But all speakers that use the same sized drivers have the same drivers. Except for the Audiobyte sub, which has a different driver as its passive radiator.
And all the tweeters are the same from bookshelfs up.
The tweeters are the same for everything. The housing is a bit different for the QS4s and the Audiobytes, but they're the same tweeters.
The Vassallo Series feature tweeters that have a metal faceplate vs the plastic one on the standard speakers. I would imagine it performs identically its just a cosmetic upgrade. \:\)
How do you know that the tweeter on the audiobyte is the same as others? I don't think it is because it sounds "different". Maybe the cross-over is different.
I believe that it was stated in one of the early posts about it. I would believe a different crossover.
Yeah Mo, the crossover might well explain any difference in the sound of the tweeters. What's amusing are the uninformed comments seen sometimes even from professional reviewers implying or stating outright that the material from which the tweeter is constructed is determinative of the sound character. This is seen in comments that titanium domes result in "bright" or even "metallic" highs. In reality the crossover controls how strong the treble is relative to the rest of the frequency range and anything much stiffer than a wet noodle can be made to sound "metallic".
Hmm... tweeters made of wet noodles. There's a thought.
Hey, if it's priced to compete with ramen, it might give new meaning to audio on a budget. Sorry, Axiom, but you're WAAAAAY overpriced.
On the other hand, they already have salad bowl subs, so this could work out for them.
Hi,

Yes, but if you came across a really old QS4, it used a different tweeter than the QS8 and the other Axioms. We switched about five or six years ago to using the same tweeter in all of our standard lineup because of the improved power handling and lower distortion of the titanium/aluminum-dome tweeter that's been standard ever since.

Alan
