Hi,

I am looking to add an Acurus 200X3 amp into my HT setup. Could you let me if the SQ will be too bright/loud for music? Also will movies drive the feeling of being enveloped?

HT setup is M22v2 (L/R), M2 (C), QS4 (rears) and SVS PB10 sub.

Listening is 70/30 movies/music.

I watch a lot of action and cartoon (pixar/disney kind) movies.

Music is Jazz, East/West Fusion, Classic rock & Classical.

For the most part, amps do just that, amplify the sound and should not color the sound by making it brighter. Having more power will let you play to louder levels, but based on the speakers you are using, do you really need more power? How big is your room, and at what levels (dB levels) do you plan to use during movies?

What receiver are you currently using, and why do you think you need more power. Keep in mind the difference between 100 and 200 watt is only 3dB.

Thanks for your reply. My room is fairly large (14x14x12) and opening out to the kitchen and living room on 2 sites. My receiver is a yammy rxv-657. I usually listen to around 80 - 85 db.

What I was looking at in terms of impact was if any of music prefrences would sound too bright. Also I may look into the m80s down the road and thought that the power of the acurus might help to drive these later

Marse, your 657 should be plenty for your needs and an amplifier with a higher maximum output rating wouldn't appear to be of any benefit(you're using about 1 watt on average now). Regardless of the amplifier it won't be too loud unless you turn it up too loud(you're in control, not the amplifier)and it won't be "bright" unless the program material fits that description.

Marse, my HT/Recroom is 30x31x9, now that is a big room. In my situation, I do have some monoblock amps driving my 80's, however, prior to that, the Denon 2805 alone did a very nice job. One reason for the amps, was that often we will be across the room playing pool and like to turn up the 80's form time to time fairly loud for music. The extra headroom of the amps helps with dynamic peaks with less change of clipping at higher volumes, however, as John stated, you will most likely be fine with the receiver you have in your environment. It should play as loud as most people would ever require. Use your money towards better speakers and/or another sub.
