I was sitting in my easy chair listening to Anjunabeats 3 today and thought hmmm I wonder what it would be like to have a Axiom Center Channel that had two of the bigger speakers from the M60 M80 speaker two smaller and two tweeters? Call it the VP260 maybe.

Lots of us have been wondering and hinting we would like to see a WT/MW design from Axiom, as I have listened to a couple and do find them to be very dynamic; but they are also huge boxes which are hard to find a place for in most non-pure HT setups, ie. your usual living room.

Larry, if I follow your suggestion, you propose a TMMMMT configuration, with two of the Ms being the 6 1/2" driver and the other two the 5 1/4". This would seem to provide for more bass extension(but all four Ms being 6 1/2", and using the same enclosure height, would allow even more), with no difference in the horizontal dispersion factor that brings some objections.

As Jason points out, we have speculated about a possible W M/T W, configuration that some centers use(if a generally horizontal configuration is insisted upon). This could use the 6/1/2" driver for the woofers, crossed over at maybe 300Hz, with the standard 1" tweeter immediately above the 4" mid used in the QS4 and crossed over around 3000Hz. Such designs exhibit a smoother and wider horizontal dispersion because of the vertical alignment of the tweeter/mid assembly. The enclosure would have to be higher, maybe 9".

I made a couple of Frankencenterspeakers, starting with the Merak (Axiom subbrand) anti reversion wave shaped speaker cabinet into which I placed 2 Axiom 6.5" drivers from the M3/M60/M80 speakers. One of these speakers came with the Merak large horn loaded tweeter, which I left, and the other I swapped the Axiom 3/4" titanium tweeter for a 1" from the Reference 3a de capo mm.

The speaker is quite large, but dwarfed by the giant Mitsubishi Diamond TV.

I had to play with the cross-over to get everything to mesh, added a modified super tweeter and ended up with a pretty spectacular center channel speaker.

This is the one with the Reference 3a de capo mm tweeter and cross-over.

I've since upgraded by Hitachi 53" to a Toshiba 65"DLP, so for the occasion I got a VP150 - also very nice.

the height of my under tv shelf is 9" and I had to look around to find one that tall, seems the av furniture manufacturers don't understand that we need room for larger centers. If the speaker is slanted like the current VP-150 and I placed it all the way to the front like its supposed to be then I can accommodate about 12"

I am just full of crazy ideas this week, last night I was listening to the song Aja by SD and had her cranked to where the needle was peaking about 98db for the drum part on the last few minutes of the song, really sounds and feels good with the M80s and I was thinking hmmm how about having 2 M80s per side for mains
