Not sure if this is at all stores or just mine, but my Hollywood video has been renting bluray movies to me for free for the last couple of weeks.

Apparently they are having some promotion where bluray rentals are free if rented one at a time. no need to rent or buy anything... just go get your free movie!

Anyone near a hollywood video should call and ask if they are having the promotion at their store.

are they charging extra for a Bluray rental? Our local Blockbuster is. Their story is that it cost more to bring them in but at an extra 1.75 a rental, it wouldn't take them long to get that back (I'm assuming their bulk purchases are much cheaper than out own) and then it's just gravy for them.

Netflix is the only way to go if you are a BluRay geek like me. They have like 1000 titles already to pick from. Many of them though are remasters from old film of course... the Bluray is so detailed it picks up the film grain... crazy.

5 bucks a piece for a bluray rental from hollywood. As soon as the free rentals end I will not be getting bluray from them thats for sure!

If I recall it was only like $1 something... that was in the middle of my billing cycle so it may be like 2 or 3 bucks extra for the whole month.

I didn't get a rate increase for blu-ray...in fact that doesn't make sense. It's not like you're renting exclusively blu-ray discs. There could very likely be months that you never receive a single blu-ray disc.

I sure did. I think they charged me 75 cents for a pro-rated 3 weeks, so my guess is that the actual premium is about a dollar per month.
