Anyone went from a sealed sub to an Axiom ported sub ? more specificaly an EP500 ?

I have a sealed Energy 10 inch sub that I've been enjoying for almost 10 years now and I would really like the 12inch EP500 but I am wondering about port noise or differences in a ported sub. The ones that I have heard did not sound as "tight" as the sealed units.

If anyone has experienced with both kinds, I would appreciate your feedback.

Cheers,

Stephane

All I can say is I've owned EP500's and 600's, and have never heard any port noise at any levels.

I went from a Cambridge Soundworks 12" sealed sub to the EP350. The EP350 could kick it up and down the block in just about every category: smoothness, musicality, punch, depth, etc.

I love my twin 350's. \:\)

Hi Sirquack, did you not have dual EP500s on your front riser next to your M80s with that nice huge screen ? did you change them for EP350s ?

I am building an HT system for my cousin and I was going to make him buy an epic 80/500..given that his room is not to big, sorry don't have volume just at the moment, would there be a huge difference between ep500 and ep350 ? (single sub to start)

For myself, I'm looking at adding an EP500 to my current Energy ES10.

I never had dual 500's, I currently have 350v3's up front and the 600 along the side wall. I traded my 500 for the 600 when I changed colors.

I thought I had port noise problems and even traded emails with Axiom about it. Much to my embarrassment, there was a cat toy stuffed deep into the port causing my problems.

Never had a problem since.

Hi Stephane.

I went from a sealed 10 inch sub (UFW-10 from AV123) to the EP500. The UFW-10 is an excellent sub, which I still use in my bedroom setup.

I cannot guarantee your experience will be the same as mine but I can tell you that I've never noticed any port noise, whatsoever, from the EP500. I recently watched Kung Fu Panda, which, surprisingly, has some pretty impressive bass in a number of scenes, and was delighted by the floor shaking, pant-leg flapping experience. I don't believe my 10 inch, sealed sub could deliver that kind of bass. I am more than happy with the EP500's performance. \:\)

I had an sealed SVS SB12 Plus prior to my purchase of an EP500, in my opinion the EP 500 is superior in all respects. I have yet to hear port noise from the EP 500.

Seriously.

Do we need to talk about "pant-leg flapping" and "port noise" in the same paragraph?

Jack, am I the reason you don't come 'round much anymore?

On a leather couch, no less.

\:\) I was really surprised that Kung Fu Panda had such strong bass. Because I live in a townhouse with one common wall, I usually keep my volume at a reasonable level (translation: at a level considerably lower than I would like). BUT! The townhouse next door is currently unoccupied. It is great fun to run the volume at the correct level. I think, each time they are showing that townhouse to a prospective tenant, I will have to test the limits of my system. If I do this correctly, I could keep that townhouse unoccupied indefinitely. \:\/

Yup, Kung Fu Panda can put weaker subs to shame. I was floored how much LFE there was.

I'm not very big on Kung Fu Anything so I didn't find the plot particularly fascinating (YMMV). But I was raised on Disney animation (Wind in the Willows and The reluctant Dragon being two of my old favorites) and I'm fascinated by the advances that animation has made over the years. I try to watch all the animated movies and enjoy most of them to varying degrees. If the postman comes through today, I should be watching Wall-E tonight. YAY!
