Thanks in advance for the good advice and feedback. I have been lurking around for a few months.

Room - 15 X 19 X 8, and is a multi-purpose room (I am jealous of the hall passes some of you have received to build these awesome HTs), The TV is on the 15 side and viewing area is about 10 feet from the screen.

I recently ordered M60's for fronts, and QS4 for the surrounds. Already have an Energy Center that I am planning on keeping for awhile. The M60's will be roughly 8' apart on either side of TV, and QS4s will be on walls about 6' up.

Based on wife "feedback", the sub needs to be in the rear of the room. Currently I have an old 8" down-firing JBL that came in a $399 5.1 kit from BB. I would like to upgrade the sub, but am on a budget and don't know a lot about subs. I want to keep the single line in from the Receiver (Onkyo 606), and will be running sub-cable through ceiling and terminating in a wall plate. The budget is from $300 to $500 US.

Thoughts?

Welcome.

Just my initial thoughts about the sub, in that size of room and the budget limitation of $300-$500 for the sub probably won't be enough.

I will let someone else with an EP120 or EP175 speak up, but you may find a lot more enjoyment out of the EP350 or greater...

Elemental designs A2-300

Outlaw LFM-1 Plus

Might stretch the budget a little.

There are a number of subs to choose from around $500 US(Outlaw, SVS, HSU, P'Digm) or for a little more, an EP350 through the Factory Outlet. (wouldn't go smaller than that in your room)

Your budget doesn't seem high enough for an Axiom sub. Maybe something like this Parts Express: Dayton 1003K 10" Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit will work for you.

HSU

eD or the Hsu.

That eD sub sure looks like a winner. Especially at that price. I might have to bite.

You should eD.................. \:D

Yeah, you and Rick head over and meet me at the eD plant in Iowa, it would be an awesome road trip.

Here are two I have heard and both were solid:
PSB 6i ; B&W 600's . I prefer the B&W as more well-rounded and controled, tighter might be a good descrition. But for HT, not sure you could go wrong. For music, the B&W.
This I can recomend as JL knows sub amps and subs better than anybody: JL Gotham . It cost a little more, but should reduce dental costs by shaking your dentures out!

And, of course, you can't ignore the Axiom subs. Like the rest of their line, the value factor is huge and should far exceed what you are entitled to for the cash - what more can you ask for.

I think you missed his budget of $300~$500...

BUDGET! Isn't this the money is no object forum

Almost a year and I finally hit 200 posts. In 50 years I'll hit 10,000. That means I'll be over 100 years old

BUDGET, WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING BUDGET!
And the street price of the B&W and PSB are close to $500-ish...kinda. The JL Gotham might be a bit more than he was looking for, but come one, it's pretty freaking cool, even at $12,000.
After all the posts, we have a trade: budget increase to $900 and I have to paint the room. So am going to check out the B&W and some of the others posted here. Thanks for all the quick replies.

Paint the kitchen too! maybe you can increase the budget a little more!

With the increased budget. Hsu and eD. Then again you could get two of the other Hsu or eD subs and still be within budget.

I listened to a JL audio gotham at a local Home audio/video and car audio store a while back. Very impressive! It felt like someone was kicking me in the chest... It was actually too much bass in the small room they had it in, and I was only sitting about 7 feet away from the sub... soo yeah, pretty much it was crazy loud

I'd use the extra money to buy some nuggets.
