I was wondering if anyone is running the QS4s and or the VP100 with a set of M80s? I've been running 2 separate systems, a music system and a H/T system and have been thinking (not sure yet) of just going with one full Axiom (Hus sub) system. The room is 13'x19.5' with a 7' ceiling. I would also have to get an AV receiver and right now I'm looking at the Onkyo 806. I'm not up on the lastest and greatest video processing and I'm not so sure I would route video through it anyway. One thing it does have is preouts so I can still use my amps, very important to me.
Any other suggestions are certainly welcome.
The QS4 are essentially the QS8 with a smaller driver, different crossover point and lower power handling. The VP100 should be adequate as well since your room which isn't that large. I wouldn't see any problems whatsoever in mixing any of Axioms bookshelf, surrounds, towers and center models with each other as long as you stay within reasonble limitations based on the room.
Yup, that's me. They work out just fine. I've been toying up upgrading to QS8s, but not with any real urgency.
Thanks Rick, that was mighty helpful
I'm going to give Axiom a call in the morning to get their opinion too. I really do think it will sound pretty good.
Did you mess with the 'Home Theatre Wizard'? I think the 100 will work fine for you, I'm not familiar with the QS4s to give an opinion either way.
Nah, no need. That darn thing will suggest the same as you
Have you added it to your cart yet?!
Sure did. I just did the wizard ans it did recommend the M50s plus the QS4s and VP100.
Of course the first system it recommenced was the M80s, VP150, QS8s and a the EP600. Told ya, the darn thing thinks like you
I see that Axiom must not have added the EP800 into the Wizard setup guide yet.
Rick, as to the 806, if you haven't already looked at it a good buy is the factory refurb from
Accessories4less for about $500.
Yes John, that's exactly where I was looking. One heck of a deal imo, Thanks.
Rick, any reason you're considering the QS4 over the 8? just curious.
My room is virtually the same size as your's but with an 8 ft ceiling. I'm using the Denon 2809(has pre's) and have to say it's an excellent unit for the price, although I don't know what they go for in the US. That Onkyo 806 that John listed looks like an awesome deal as well.
On the left rear wall where I have my wires ran I only have 10" of room. So I need to have a speaker that is less than 10" wide, hence the QS4s.
Wow, that is an incredible deal for that receiver. Any known downsides to it?
Perhaps it's time to upgrade....
Sounds like you're thinking what I'm thinking, Pinky.
Weren't some people have problems with that model of Onkyo and the m80's?

I wouldn't have to worry about that as it would only be powering the center channel. I have two amps that will be used.
Your getting a new receiver just to power the center channel?
Yep! I would use the one I have but there's no pre outs.
I assume it will be driving the surrounds as well, not just the center?
No, I have the Luxman that would be doing surround duty. The Rotel for the front mains and the Onkyo would be driving the center.
interesting, for surround decoding the new Onkyo would do a much better job, especially with the latest Audyssey built in and sub calibration. jm2c
Sounds like a great deal and looking forward to a review of how everything sounds once it is up and running
I have the Onkyo 805 and am happy with it. It powers M60/VP100/4xQS8 adequately.

The Onkyo would be doing the decoding. The Luxman is a two channel amp that would be hooked up via preouts for the side surrounds.
