Hi all. A couple months ago i picked up 5 mirage nanos and a pioneer elite VSX-21TXH. It sounds really good but i think i would prefer having a traditional center channel. Right now the 3 front speakers are mounted 5.5 feet off the ground and about a foot behind my 60 inch mitsu dlp. Do you think the VP100 would work good with my current setup.

Geeeshh! they are two very different types of speakers, unless someone's actually tried this, I wouldn't want to guess about the timbre matching. What do you feel you are missing with the Nanosat as a centre? have you considered the Nano CC?

Well the problem is that all the speakers blend together too much. I was hoping a forward firing center would give talking a little more pop.

Can't you just turn up the center by a few dB in the receiver? Generally, the goal is to get them to blend as much as possible. Can you separate the left and right speaker further out from each other?

Also, bring them forward so they're not "behind" the TV...

I agree, try some of the above suggestions. I am think it is ideal to have the same types of speakers up front.

Looks like you've been kicking around this site for almost a year now, did you at one time consider purchasing an Axiom home theater? If so what changed your mind, and have you ever heard an Axiom speaker anywhere before?

Don't worry, it's not a requirement to own Axioms in order to hang out here, I was just curious. ;\)

it's mandatory, lol...

I did consider it for awhile. I ended up with the nanos because i got all 5 with the OMNI 8in sub for 450 dollars. Its kinda why i came here looking for a center to try. Out of curiousity how would my pio elite work with axioms. I see axioms and pios labeled as bright alot so i wasnt sure they would get along well.

Receivers are not bright, harsh, etc. or whatever some people say on other forums. Unless your introducing some extra DSP feature, tone control, or EQ, would the receiver then may appear to be bright.

Axiom speakers are actually very neutral by design and are accurate to the original recording. So poorly engineered CD's may appear to be bright to the ears, that is not the speakers fault.

I don't think there are a lot of people here that believe in "bright" receivers. I certainly don't.

I have a VP100 (along with M60's) at home, and have Omnisats at the office. I haven't heard them together, but I think it would be a fine idea.

I dunno, I have an old receiver in the basement that's fairly bright, kind of a brushed aluminum colour...OH! wait a minute....

Well bfore i got my elite i picked up a harmen kardon. That receiver seemed to put out a totally different sound. I had to return it though because of the problems it had. Its a shame too cause it was 200 dollars cheaper and sounded alot better. Are there any receivers out there that compare to HK but dont have alot of problems.

I think when i get my tax return ill give the VP100 a try. Does anyone see a problem with it above my tv. I really dont have much of a choice with placement.

That's where my VP100 is, but it's also a 27" CRT TV. Try various orientations--pointing towards you (using doorstops to prop it up), straight ahead, even flipped over and pointing upwards. That's how mine is, and it works better than straight ahead.
