I just win an auction at from Axiom deal. A brand new pair of M80v2 light maple finnish for 800$cnd. Yes unbelievable !
That will replace my M3, so a good improvement i bet.
Now i only have a litle concern about my a/v reciever. Do you guys think my Marantz SR5003, a 90watts power output will be enough ?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: I have a pair of M80 :) - 09/20/10 11:53 PM
I use my M80s with a H/K 525, which is 75wpc. They work fine at the volumes I use them at.

Of course, you may find the 90wpc isn't good enough for you.

Excellent! Thats quite the upgrade.

I thought about placing a bid on those but light maple just wouldn’t fit in my all black HT room. Congratulations on winning.

Congrats.

Philippe, congratulations on the auction win. As to the receiver, the answer always has to be the same: it depends on how loud of an average listening level you use and how wide the dynamic range of the program material is. The M80s are a bit more sensitive than average and are fairly easy to drive. The SR5003 should do the job at typical safe listening levels at home.
Posted By: Philippe Re: I have a pair of M80 :) - 09/21/10 01:10 PM
I do not listening my music/movies that loud. I have a big room yes but not wide. 12feets wide and 27feets deep and 8 celling. My listening position is at 10-11feets. I actually rarely push up to -10db on my reciever for my M3/EP350 and either for movies in 5.1
I will anyway give a short review of those M80 soonly. Also put some pics.

Posted By: jakewash Re: I have a pair of M80 :) - 09/21/10 10:07 PM
The 5003 would be similar to my Denon 1804 I had when I first bought my light maple M80s and it worked equally as well as my 3808. Congrats.

So today i have receive my M80v2 from Purolator. Damn two big boxes.
Right out of the boxe i can say these have the most beautifull finnish i've own from Axiom (light mapple). I have own black, boston cherry and high gloss cherry and those from my taste have the best looking (fit my room perfectly too). They have tan grilles and Noreen was so kind to ship me a pair of black grilles too for free (thank you very much once again). ALso that's a lot of speaker for the money !
So i took few minutes to set them properly. Yes i had to take over my EP350 and M3. They are drive by my Marantz SR5003 and my source is a cd player from Marantz too the SA8003.
I've put some of my fav cd's. Porcupine tree - The incident, Jeff Buckley - Grace and some Alicia Keys and his cd Unplugged.
I have to say those M80 can handle everything. The bass is strong and tight. The mids present and the upper octace from female voice are crisp. The male voice from Jeff Buckley is clean and it's like if he were still alive beside me smile If i can compare from my 2.1 listening (M3 and EP350), M80 give a most complete sound. They are close to the Focal 826V speaker i've own last year. I just do not have the high end gears i use to have to compare fairly (Naim) And i just gave them 1-2 hours max so they need more break time period even if i know most people here do not believe in break time wink.
Anyway i am for now a fully satisfied new M80 owner and i will post some pics tomorrow.
Thank for reading this litle review.

Congratulations Philippe !

Please, keep us posted on how your Marantz handles your M80s.
Posted By: Philippe Re: I have a pair of M80 :) - 09/25/10 12:43 AM
My little Marantz do his duty just fine. I dont feel like i need more power. I listening my music at -15db or -10db max and it's loud enough believe me. I have only try a sort scene from Avatar and no complain too about power.

You know, I could come over and knock out a couple holes in that super nice looking designer wall, just to hide the cords. Then, I'll come back next year to patch 'em up. Deal?

Okay, okay Philippe! This is at least the second time you've asked for our thrust. From a distance, the Axiom community thrusts you.

Very nice, Philippe, and welcome to the Light Maple M80 club, which I'm a member.

I have to say light maple is the best looking finnish i've seen so far from Axiom.
As for the center, i will indeed have to change it. I do not know if i will upgrade for the VP180. I think it might be a little to big for my space. My goal is to buy a new tv (Plasma 50inch) from Panasonic or Samsung and set my VP150 above the tv. So i will have to think about it.
And by the way, thank to correct my word, i am a french canadien not my fault smile

So where were all you light maple fans when we were voting on finishes ? I could tell that the poll code was trying to laugh at me when I voted for "light maple" wink

Look like we are 3 now
You, Alan and me. wink
Posted By: CatBrat Re: I have a pair of M80 :) - 09/27/10 03:04 PM
I voted for it, because I'm not a big fan of the other 3 finishes.

You know Phillipe, you should add that shot to the gallery section of this website. That's a sweet looking room, and those speakers look great in there with the grills off.

Philippe it looks to me like you have more than enough room for a VP180 even with a larger TV if you hang it on the wall like your current TV. It appears to me that with a VP180 placed on top of the equipment cabinet you'll easily have a few inches to spare on both sides and the height looks to be ideal.

Very neat, Philippe. I am very interested in hearing your impressions.

Have fun!

So today i have receive my tube processor from Grant Fidelity B283 MKII. The unit is heavy and look well built. The pre-amp isn't new so no break time period needed.
The first thing i notice is wow, the bass more detailed, more controlled. Soundstage is improve. Male voice is stonger and overall mid range sound more natural. The highs are smooth and those harsness have now disappear, completelly...no. Does it worth every penny spend... yes all of them. For those who looking for tube sound from cd's or any source, i recommended it anytime.
Now i am looking foward to upgrade my tube !
