Which is better for movie only Bookshelf and dual subs of floorstanding and dual subs.?

and why are the floorstanding better ? specially when you have subs ? Also, for a $1000 difference is it really that great of a difference ?

I know musically floorstanding is the way to go.

my choices now are
and I love the M&K 950 cross off at 80hz. I love the detail, with these. sound stage litterally, I have them in 2ch or all three doesn't matter. Imaging is un real. close your eyes and the speakers dissappear.

But, I want Axiom too SO, I am trying to decide

In that case, floor standers all the way, 'cause they're Axioms.

How big is your room and how far are you going to sit from the speakers?

M22+sub = M60+sub. It is very hard to tell the difference between these two setups.

The M80s will give you a Little more in the midrange and treble. Its a subtle difference, but the M80 gives you a little more of a feeling that you are in front of a real band for music. I think this applies to movies as well, as an increasing number have very good sound tracks.

Well, originally it was 19L x 15w x 8h around 2200 sq ft
but, very well may end up 17L x 13w x 8h for 1700 sq ft

Sitting about 11ft if I build it 13ft wide to 13ft from the fronts if I go 15ft wide

So thats the biggest and smallest.
Two systems one up in Living room ,that's a given M80's

it is the best I can get for movies in the movie room and I am not sure if a real good set of bookshelves is better than floorstanders. Just don't see where the difference would be if I am using subs.

I just heard that if you are using the system for movies and music then get floorstanding.

Movies/Music all the same to me as many movies have great soundtracks. I like my floorstanders vs. my M22's for movies due to the extra punch I get from them with action scenes.

I’m with Jason on the floorstanders for movies. The ideal room position for your sub is not very likely going to be the ideal position from which to deliver mid-bass punch which is actually where a lot of the punched in the chest feeling comes from.

I just switched from M3s to M80's. Strictly talking movies I believe bookshelf's would be fine unless you REALLY want to go all out for that small increase in performance, primarily at extremely high sound levels.

My old setup were M3/1EP350 and then i bought the M80. Honnestly for movies only i didn't really saw a difference at first shot. Of course the M80 add more details and punch but it not worth the difference.

I have M80s and M3s. Sometimes for fun, I put my M3 in my living room and watch a movie. (I don't have a sub). The 80's are better, but I could easily live with the 3s.
I think if I was starting over, I would get a setup of m3s and furniture like Axiom has in some of the pictures. If my M3s weren't pink, I might do it anyway and put my 80s in the bedroom.

When I was doing side by side tests in demo rooms, it seemed like the floor standing speakers were better at filling the room with sound without being loud, a more immersive experience, does that make sense? But I never compared Axiom Bookshelfs to Axiom Towers, so maybe it wouldn't matter.

I haven't listened to any axiom bookshelf speakers yet. I am extremely happy with my m80's and wouldn't want anything smaller for my living room.

I would probably go with book shelf speakers in a bedroom or smaller den/living room though.

Yup. And there's another advantage. The best locations for soundstage and imaging is almost never the best location for bass reproduction in the room. Better to filter the low frequencies from the main channels and re-direct them to a dedicated subwoofer, which will not only reproduce those frequencies better, but also allow placement where bass reproduction is best in the room (without having to compromise the soundstage). Can't do that with large floorstanders, unless you're real handy with a saw.

That would be true, but if putting in two subs ....is there really a difference.

I suggest you listen to more logical people and get the heck off that AVS forum.

There is music IN movies, even more so in musicals.
How can anyone think it is possible to separate these two into distinct categories for which different speakers are somehow more attuned?
Speakers are designed to reproduce sound from whatever the source material.
Period.

Choose what is best for your room size and listening preferences (capacity/need for higher SPL, sound without the use of subwoofers, placement space available, budget....)

I dont if ever watch a musical.
I rarely sit back to watch a movie and listen to the sound track.

Thirdly if I listen to music, it is in 2 channel, not 2.1

If I am watching a movie it is and will be 7.2
So, for my music I have and know without a doubt floorstanding M80's or equivilent.

It is for watching movies that I am concerned about. Not Bon Jovi concert vidoe's or Stevie Ray or any concert or music video.

I know there is back ground music etc, but rarely do I even notice that.

The room is around 2000 sq ft. I do not need mmy ear drums to bleed either so extreme volumn is not needed.
Bookshelfs fill the room quite well, at least my MK750's do.

The budget allows for M80's and two SVS Ultra's just as well as it does for MK950's and two SVS subs.

So then just change your receiver to 2.0 when you want music and back to 7.2 for movies. Can still use all the same speakers.
