Hello Everyone,

I am new to axiom and home theatre in general. I am just finishing up my man cave and am excited to get moving on some home theatre gear. I have found myself on this website due to all the excellent reviews. Here is how my room is set up:

The front wall is going to have the projector screen and all other equipment. In the back of the room will be the pool table and darts. The room measure 16 feet x 30 feet.

I am thinking of getting the Marantz SR6007 with the 7.1 epic 80 package.

My question is, Should I stick to getting the QS8 for the rears or maybe look into the M22 for the rears as the distance from the projector and seating area will be lengthy?

Another question, will the EP800 sub be overkill(if there is such a thing) and if in regards to room placement should I go with horizontal setup or vertical? I want to have even sound throughout the room so should I even break it down further and have 2 subs as opposed to the one?

I am aware of the subwoofer crawl however does anyone have experience how to place the EP800? I would either have to have it behind the seating area underneath the pool table or at the front of the room along with the mains.

So many things to think about but I want to do it right!

With every room being so different, I think the subwoofer crawl is your best best. No, the EP800 isn't overkill, but like you suggest, having two subs may offer smoother performance over a wider range of seats.

I personally ended up with four EP800s, but not because one or two weren't cutting it, but just because I planned on having them fill a larger space eventually, and four seems to be the magic number people talk about as far as smoothing out the bass response. Not that the final room they'll be in won't be a problem for placement of four subs. Wish me luck on that.

As for horizontal vs. vertical, go with whatever you think works best for where you want to place it. I ended up with two horizontal and two vertical based on where I think they'll end up in the basement, but in the current room, they're all standing vertically. Instead of on feet, they're on Auralex SubDude HD platforms. I'll experiment with both orientations when I move my system, but I'm more than satisfied with them all being vertical in the current room. Obviously, vertical has a smaller footprint, but horizontal will let me place one one a concrete ledge I have behind my screen as well as under a table at the rear of the room, if I end up going that route. Either way, I think it only really matters if you're going to use the feet, which I'm not. You can always find a way to face the holes for the feet in the least visible direction.

Oh, and I would probably consider M22s for the rear surrounds if they're really going to be on the back wall. Of course, you can always ceiling-mount the QS8s if you want them closer to the seating.

With a standard 7.1 HT system, it is recommended by some experts to go with a diffusing type speaker for your L/R side surround speakers, such as the(QS-8). And a direct radiator type speaker, such as the (M-22) for your L/R rear surround speakers.

Welcome. I went with four QS8s for my 7.1 system and it sounds great, but I do wonder what the sound would be like if I went with something direct radiating like M22s.
