Hello Folks,

I have M22, VP150 and QS8s. I am upgraded the receiver/amp and I wondered if this setup would benefit from the kind of power/current that an Emotiva outboard amp (XPA-5) over the amps in the Denon X4000

I think it is pretty unlikely. If you have a very large room AND listen at very high volumes, you might be able to detect a difference.

I added an XPA-3 to my Onkyo 805 / M60 combination. I have a large room but rarely listen at high volumes. I *like* having the amp, but I cannot tell any qualitative difference.

If you don't have a highly capable sub, I'd certainly spend the money there first.

Nice looking receiver. How do you like it?

I would agree. Save your money on the amp. Amps are great, but not all speakers justify the cost. The larger the speaker, the larger the listening space, and the louder you like the sound, then amps come into play. But I would say that you would need to fall into the "larger/louder" crowd for all 3 of those criteria before really needing to jump into it.

Of course, if you have money to blow, then do whatever you want. Bang-for-the-buck just isn't there with your setup in my opinion. Others may say otherwise, and that is fine too. I just don't think that you will get the definitive "YES/NO that you want.

That's what I thought I just wanted a second opinion before I went either way. I haven't bought the X4000 yet. My sub is an SVS PC12 NSD

The trouble is with an amp like this as much as I wanted one in the past, at 100 "plus" pounds, the biggest challenge in buying it is getting it from the front door when it is delivered to my A/V room and on to the equipment rack for hook-up.

I don't need it's power, but it has blue lights so I like it. smile
