Hi all, this is my first time posting here. In a few months, I'll be in the market for a new speaker system. I have Fluance speakers right now, which are pretty good, but I got them knowing that I would be upgrading soon, and that they would be good enough for the time being. I've never spent more than $500 for speakers, so this will be a first. I'll have up to a thousand bucks to spend, and I want to spend it right this time. There are a few names that I have in mind, including Axiom, Ascend Acoustics, JBL's S Series, and maybe Polk's discontinued RTi Series. Also, I'm thinking about Home Theater Direct, but I'm not too sure about that one. Axiom and Ascend are my 2 main choices, and I'll most likely go with one of them. I just don't know which one. I have a Yamaha RXV-430 receiver, but I'm hoping to upgrade to a 6.1 receiver early next year. Well, if you guys could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

I own the Ascends, but I love this Axiom board.
That said, do what you can to listen to both, or better yet, get them into your home for a listen. It is truly going to come down to your preferences.
by the way...there is a fully non-Ascend support forum here: www.ascendforum.com just starting out, so not as big as the Axiom board.

Thanks for the replies. My budget will be around $1,000, excluding a sub(already have one). What system would you guys recommend? I really would rather have bookshelf speakers instead of towers. Our living room is kind of small, and my wife doesn't want huge speakers taking up a lot of space...
For a modest-sized room, a combination of the M22/VP150/QS4 is $1060 (I assume your budget is in US$). If you can grab some of them from the
Factory Outlet, the price will be ~10% less per item. If you can stretch the budget a little, then replace the QS4 with the QS8 -- that will make one of the Axiom 5-channel sets that have been considered a "killer" system by many regulars here.
You're going to Audio Hell for that one.
Four Ascend CBM-170's and a CMT-340c center will run you $882 shipped. This is standard pricing. You can call to get on their b-stock waiting list (which is long), they do not have an outlet. Also considered a killer system by regulars everywhere.
Best thing to do is listen to the M22 and CBM-170 side by side.

I think Axiom offers their products through the Factory Outlet because they love us. I'm not joking. I think their FO offerings are really first quality stuff, just sort of discounted. I've never heard of anyone finding a significant defect on any of their FO offerings.

Well I tell you what.. I will give you my system as it sounds like it may be right up your alley! lol Here goes:
Yamaha RX-V2300 6 Channel Reciever
Axiom M22ti's Front
Axiom VP150 Center (A must with the M22's) Killer!!
Axiom QS8's Rear surround
Axiom M2i Rear 6th Channel
Axiom EP175 Sub
All in all the system ROCKS!! As for the reciever, you could probably get away with the model under mine, as with the efficiency of the Axiom speakers you would not be short of power. I have yet to get my reciever over negative 25 before the China and windows shake! lol The M22ti's, VP-150, QS8's and M2i, all ROCK!! I will never change this untill the day I go to M80's! lol As for the sub, it works for me now, but could see upgrading it someday. I hope this helps, or at least can lead you in some direction. I feel very safe in saying you will love this set-up if you choose to use it, or a variation of it. Good Luck!

I would say Mangepan MMG for the L/R. With a sub you'll have the nicest music reproduction and at $550 you'll still have enough to buy a vp100 ($220) and a pair of qs4s ($310). Okay I'm over by $80
This is a great set up - if you spend most of your time listening to music.
Unfortunately there are three reasons you may not want this system.
1) the maggies are big - you can wall mount them but they definitely speak bachelor or separate listening room.
2) the power necessary to drive the maggies is large. They are 4 ohm speakers somewhat power hungry especially if you want a lot of volume.
3)I don't know if the vp100 will integrate itself well with the maggies. But if you buy the maggies first you can take axiom up on their offer and see if the whole thing works.
