Upgrading home theater. Currently have on wall m22's and vp150 center on wall, qs8 surrounds and EP 500. My initial thought was to replace with m5hp and vp160 mini on wall. Problem is I'd like to go to 77" tv, and the M5hp's will just barely fit into the space, and M3 on walls will fit a little easier. I'm keeping the EP500, and I could make the M5hp's fit easier, but that will require some carpentry work. Would the M5hp's be worth it? I could also go to 65" tv and the M5's would fit better. Room is 15x14'.

First question is what is the upgrade you are hoping to achieve? Is it just to make the new tv upgrade and make it all fit or are you trying to improve something with in the audio? More details will help to give suggestions. I have m3 and m2 but have not heard the m5hp, yet. Were you thinking m5hp on walls or going fullsize?

Thanks for the reply. Doing some sheetrock and electrical work in another room and the current setup is probably about 12 years old. Going from a 55” to 77”, and while I have work going on already, this seems like the time to optimize system. I’d like to keep on wall speakers. There isn’t anything at all that I find wrong with current speakers. I guess it’s more an issue of making it fit, and if m5hp’s would be worth a little extra carpentry.

What will you be driving all the speakers with?

IMO, if your current speakers are v4 then you’re not going to get much improvement upgrading. The M22 v4 is a fantastic speaker especially mixed with the EP500. Your center is perfect for a 77” … I have a similar setup in my family room 77” with M2 bookshelves/VP150ow/EP500 & QS10 surrounds. I’m happy with it.

the M5ow gives you a bit more low end … the M5/EP500 vs M22/EP500 it’s not going to be a night/day difference …
That said I’m using M5s for my bed surrounds in the HT just because I wanted the low-mid direction component (or perhap I just wanted the upgrade) not sure if I really needed them (over say an M3)

I'd call it a sign. They barely fit...=they fit.
EP500 is good.
I would like to try the M5HP and oddly enough the M22 almost won when I went all in on Axiom.

I'd echo what rrlev says regarding v4. If your m22's are 12 years old than id go for the upgrade to v4. I have ti series and v4 series and the v4 series are better. They have a "wider sweet spot" and the mid bass has more texture and definition and is just plain better, highs are better tempered, softer (in a good way) and very enjoyable, they do the disappearing act really well and easily too.

I think mojo brings up a good question as well, what power plant you are using? My M60ti went from good to amazing when I added in seperates with well endowed clean power, it really made a huge boost in performance and enjoyment. I tried the big power amp on the m3v4 too (carefully of course) and man did that sound really good in my bedroom setup. REALLY good. Tons of seperation and very strong imaging with depth, it's probably my favorite setup of them all.

Do you use the left and right channels for pure 2 channel listening too? That's also a consideration whether to upgrade to v4 m5hp or even v4 m22, v4 m22 might integrate better with your ep500 over the m5hp....not totally sure on that, i'm a rookie at sub woofer integration but learning with my 2 subs and my m60ti.
