Hi, I have decided to purchase the following components: M22s, VP150, & QS-8s plus VTF-2 sub for a room that is 15X20 w/9' ceilings. The setup is on the long wall so my listening position is approx. 11' from the speakers. I am replacing a pair of Klipsch KG5.5s which are too "big" and need something smaller. HT/CDs is 75/25%. Looking for fidelity not loudness.

Axioms describes the M22s as "great in rooms from small to average-sized!" while it describes the M60s as "Ideally suited to filling larger-than-average rooms, 2000-6000 cubic feet"

I want the small size of the M22s but worry that they are not ideally suited for my "larger-than-average" room.

Appreciate any feedback.
thank you

I'd say you're on the cusp. Both M22's and M60's would work in your room. You'll be able to push the M60's harder in a room that size, but at moderate volumes, the M22's will work extremely well too.

I have the M22s in a room that is 13.5'x22' with 8' ceiling at one end and 16' at the other. The room opens into the kitchen as well. The M22s have no problem playing loud and still sounding great. As a matter of fact my wife is always complaining about he levels I like to watch movies at.

Ditto on the "it's too loud statement" for our 13X23 room. We have the 60's, 8's, 150 and EP175.

I'm thinking of moving up to the M60s to replace the M22s. What do you think jbzngowest?

I moved up to the 60's from the 22's myself. I had nothing except this forum to base my opinion on. Besides, I've never come in under budget. Why should I break that habit? I future-proofed my purchase by selling myself on what I'll want in our eventual new house. The 60's proved to be the perfect choice. As far as the sound difference, you'll have to ask Spiff that. I think there are others that had both and kept the 60's. You'll get all the info you need in a matter of days. This way you'll have plenty of time to change your mind ten times. I'd definitely wait until after Christmas to order anyway.

I had the chance to audition both the M22s and the M60s.
I stated some of my short impressions here if you are interested.

As an addition though, i've found the M60s definitely need more room to get the imaging to work right. At the present time i sit 8' from the speakers and this is just too close. I wish i had about 10' or more.

I compared both side by side and didn't notice enough of a difference to want to upgrade from my 22's to the 60's, but I know there are people that have done it and are happy with the upgrade.

It's really a matter of room size. I have a fairly big room. I needed to push the M22's pretty hard to try and fill the room. By doing so, I was stressing them a bit. The M60's handle my room with ease. They also have a much larger soundstage.

I had to make the same decision some time ago and went with M22s. My room is 22' x 16' with two storey ceiling and open to breakfast area and kitchen. That was a large space to fill. For placement space constraints, I went with the exact same system as you. My thought was that the M60s and M22s have the same mid range drivers and tweeter and if I used the HSU for the bass, I should not notice any difference. I have been very satisfied with the setup. Even at fairly high volumes I do not hear the strain. Of course not having auditioned the M60s, in the same setting, I do not have a direct comparison...
