In the process of putting together a HT system:

Denon AVR-2802
Axiom M50 (front)
Axiom VP150 (centre)
Axiom 175 Sub

Trying to decide whether to go with M22i or M40 as the surrounds. What'll I gain/lose by going with either one?

The family room is about 28'X13'X9'. The sofa is placed along one of the long wall. The fireplace is located in the middle of the other long wall so the viewing area is about 14'X13'X9'.

By the way, does anyone know what is the post size or M50, 40 and 22i? Are they the same?

I gather from your options that you desire direct radiating surround channels. Either one of your choices is going to work very well with the rest of your system. I would tend to make this decision based on your room layout. Taking into consideration things like; do you have the space for floor standing speakers as surrounds or do you need to wall mount? From a timbre matching point of view though, either one will be great. The post sizes are the same on all these models at 3/8” diameter.

Ian, thanks for the advice.

Space is not an issue for the surrounds. What I would like to know is if M22i has better mid-range than M40 or if M40 has better bass than M22i ... etc.

If the post size is 3/8", does it mean the spade size should be the same or 1/4" (tigher fit) would be better?

The bass is better in the M40s. Mid range is going to be very similar between these two speakers especially for use as effects channels. For the spades you should use 3/8", the 1/4" will not fit.
