Woot! My QS8s arrived this morning! I love that I could be home for the delivery and still get to work on time. Again, Aime and Noreen are 'da bomb'. Thank you both very much.

Now if I can just get through the day at work knowing that my new babies are at home waiting for me to mount them and watch a couple of movies... Any suggestions on movies to watch first? I was thinking of watching the good parts of Episode 2 (pretty much anytime where Ani is not on the screen), maybe the matrix, Underworld is nice too, blade 1 or 2? Something else?

Pod race from episode 1.

Blade 2 may be good w/ the first fight seen. You can hear the motorcycles behind your head.

I didn't find Matrix that impressive.

Daredevil uses the surrounds a lot. Saving Ryan's Privates (DTS) is great. Much more subtle, but very immersvie.

i don't know of a good movie to demonstrate this, but to me rear dialog and subtle sounds like door knocking can be more impressive than special fx like in star wars.

when I first got my QS8's, was listening to a japanese movie that had a door knock in the background. i actually paused and got up to answer the door...

Thanks. Sadly I did pay to purchase Daredevil so I might check that out. Um I don't know if Saving Ryan's Privates is a movie I want to watch... Is that straight or gay porn? ;-)

Ronin has some sweet car chases that sound cool.

Hi,

Try "The Bourne Identity". Very exciting sound mix at times yet some lovely nuances in other scenes (in the marsh, where the guy fires the shotgun: marsh ambient sounds and flocks of ducks taking off all over the place).

Very exciting movie overall. I'm surprised that more people did not have it on their 10 best list. Proof that like him or loathe him, Matt Damon can be very effective in some roles. Interesting watching the diverging career paths of him and Ben Affleck.

but did you like the bourne identity concept when it was called Paycheck w/ Ben Affleck or the FOX TV show John Doe? Perhaps Total Recall w/ Arnold...

No. No. Yes.

Swoosh....the sound of a thread being hijacked.

Paycheck and Total Recall have something in common... both based on stories written by Philip K. Dick. As was Blade Runner and Minority Report and some Gary Sinise movie I can't remember right now. A fantastic writer who just happened to write Sci-Fi. Excellent themes circling the notion of identity. That, and some really bizarre autobiographical "fiction." Really, really bizarre stuff.

"A fantastic writer who just happened to write Sci-Fi."

As were Jules Verne, and Kurt Vonnegut. Good writing is good writing. It transcends genre.

Blackhawk Down is a great dvd to test a pair of surround speakers on.

Wow are these speakers great! I live in a studio so positioning is anything but ideal. I had to mount them on the wall about 1ft behind seating and up about 3 ft over my head (sitting. I listed to/watched the subway scene opening for Underworld (rain and thunder then bullets flying and shells bouncing everywhere around you). I watched the goblin/balrog scene in FotR. Again, everything was around and behind and above w/o the speakers being obvious. I also just watched Ghost in the Machine and as the film begins the main char is sitting on the side of a side scraper while the cities sounds are all around. There is a helicopter in the scene that I thought was actually flying over my building...
I love the QS8 speakers!

I did not know the movie Ghost in the Machine was out on DVD. Did you mean Ghost in the Shell?

Oops. I got so excited I mixed up watching a great Anime flick with listening to a great Police album! Yes I meant Ghost in the Shell. Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Millenium Actress, and (of course) Akira are all great as well. Oh, Vampire Hunter D was fun too!
