I was poking around Ebay and found a listing for the Marantz MM9000 170w x 5 power amp for $699 + $30 shipping. Further poking around in the audio/video forums shows that the unit is considered well constructed, as having a good sound, and generally being a steal at that price. I've been wanting to dip my toe into the separates pool, and was wondering if any of you have any experience with this amp, as it seems like a lot of bang for the buck.

and they are an authorized internet seller, so you do in-fact get a warrantee

these are the people that are selling the amp that you saw on ebay.

here is a link to a reciever/amp combo by the company

I already found the website...if I order there as opposed to Ebay I can get free shipping...What I want to know is if anybody has heard the unit, or even knows something about it by reputation.

Mark, take a look at this site. User input that might be of some value.
I've checked out that site...I never buy anything without at least looking at audioreview.com, but I find that everyone tends to like stuff they already bought. I trust the folks on this forum not to have an inflated opinion of anything.

I have seen nothing but good reviews for the MM9000, and I am probably going to pull the trigger tomorrow. I figure worst case, if I don't like it, I'm only out $699, and I can probably sell it for almost as much as I paid for it. I already ordered a 5 channel interconnect from Blue Jeans Cables, so I'm more or less committed, right?
Just a thought - did you take a look at the 200W Outlaw monoblocks?

I had been thinking that my next move might be to separates, but I may be able to take advantage of an excellent upgrade opportunity from a Denon 1803 to 3803. If I can pull it off, the monoblocks look like a great match for the 3803. I would likely only get three for the fronts/center.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

the site also has a reciever, amp combo, i am thinking that i am going to buy the combo.. its only 1100$ and Marantz stuff is very good.. i talked to my "audiphile" buddie about that deal, vs the outlaw product, which i was going to buy, and he said to go with the Marantz... so i think i will order tomarrow...

As far as the interconnects go that you ordered, did you find a package, or did you order individual cables? If you ordered individual cables, could you tell me which ones you decided to go with? And maybe a link to the page with that cable on it.. thanks.
I wanted at least 5 channels..I listen to quite a bit of DVD-A and SACD in 5.1, and I eventually want to get a pair of M2's so I am listening to M60's, M2's, and a VP100 for my 5 channels. 5 outlaw monoblocks would be quite a bit more than $699. What I really lust after is the Outlaw 7x200 amp, but at $1799, it's a bit out out of my price range right now.

I ordered a 5 channel Blue Jeans interconnect...I'll try to remember how to post the link...

Blue Jeans Cables Multi-channel interconnects

I think the front end on my Onkyo will be a pretty good pre/pro. It is THX certified as well, for what it's worth.
im a little late with this,i have the mm9000 amp,it has 150 x 5 if i remember,it has enough power to play the m80s and the vp150 at pretty high volumes in a good size room-24x24.--At 699.00 i doubt you will find another amp that can out preform it.two things i really like about it is the 5 peak level indicators on the front(without those i would definetly fry my speakers)and individual level controlls on the back panel....i think you will find it unbeatable at that pricepoint....good luck..ron
i just ordered a MARANTZ SR6300/MM9000 combo, i called in the order, and mark the guy who i talked to was very pleasant.. and gave me deals on everything else i ordered, interconnects, speaker wire, and plugs... i just ordered a MARANTZ SR6300/MM9000 combo, i called in the order, and mark the guy who i talked to was very pleasant.. and gave me deals on everything else i ordered, interconnects, speaker wire, and plugs... he gave me free shipping on everything, even though as a package deal they don’t give free shipping, only if you buy the amp separately… so he hooked that up as well… so far im happy with the decision, I spent 1,200$ for receiver, amp, and all the interconnects I needed + speaker wire….
That's good to know...especially since I already bought it! There is some disagreement about the exact wattage of the unit...most ads say 150x5, but the owners manual I downloaded says 170x5.

According to UPS tracking, the unit is in town, ready for delivery monday!
I own 3 of the Outlaw 200s for my L, R & Center. They are outstanding. They do feel like a little overkill for my M22s, but they are rock solid. I recently took them out of the home theater because the separates were taking over the room, and moved to a Pioneer Elite 55TXi to make my wife happier.

So I am mothballing the Outlaws for a while, but they are so good that I will put them away and bring them out when I can create the right environment. Heck, I suspect my kids (11 & 9) will fight over them when I'm dead and gone!

Send me a note if you want more info.

Take care,
Rich
Mhorgel, you will have to let me know what you think, my stuff wont ship until Monday… I’m also going to receive, my epic 60 system +vp150 on Monday or Tuesday…. So next weekend I should be able to enjoy everything together…
The QS8 design has not been used by any other manufacturers either. I also have never seen the dual tweeter design used on the M80 from any manufacturer. I think Axiom is able to be ahead of the game because of Ian's engineering.
