OK...I sold my 656A dvd player and bought the 563a so I could playback SACD. They're pretty much the same unit, except the 656a played only DVD-A. I bought a couple of SACD's and it does indeed sound nice.

But...

I've already had two dvd's freeze up on me while watching. When you consider I've only watched possible 5-6 movies since I bought the thing, that's not a good ratio. Granted both discs that froze were used. But the disc that froze last night had only the VERY slightest of marks on it. My previous player wouldn't have had an issue with it. It seems that the 563a, or at least my unit is really, really sensitive to any surface scratches or dirt on dvds.

Anyone else find this to be true? It's VERY annoying!

This sounds vaguely familiar from my previous research on this player. Sorry, can't recall the details but I believe I read about similiar problems on AVS and/or Home Theatre Forum.

I have had just one disc that did not play in my 563a...just the other night. It would not play in my computer either.

I've had some slight pauses occationally, but never a total freeze with my 563A. I've probably tried about 30 DVDs on it, 2/3rds of which were rentals.

Sounds like my typical luck.

I never had a problem with my 563, though I took it out of service as I could not pass on the Denon 2200 for under $300 from e-cost. Sorry about your luck...can you return it for a replacement?

Am returing mine.....while playing CDs, it freezes and I start hearing noices from my speakers,happened 3 times already

......glad i still have not jumped into buying sacds or more cables.....

I must have lucked out. Mine is working flawlessly, must keep fingers crossed, I guess.

No problems with mine with the exception of a second of pixelation during Matrix Revolustions the other night. No freeze-ups.
