I'm going to be purchasing a new speaker setup fairly soon. I was looking at the Epic 80, but both of the reviews on the Soundstage network mention that the M80's require at least a medium-sized room to avoid boomy bass or overly bright treble. My room is 18 x 13, with one side wall open.

Should I look more closely at M60's as the mains instead? What difference can I expect in terms of output and matching, assuming the VP150, QS8 and EP350 stay the same?

Thanks

Your room is certainly large enough for the M80s, especially with the one side being open. It is really the proximity to the wall that you may need to adjust if you are getting too much bass in your room, or better at your listening position. Large speakers with the capability of reproducing low bass frequencies can interact with the wall behind them and depending on where you are seated this will manifest itself as too much bass. If this should happen in your room, then you need to move the speakers out from the wall a bit.
