What is your opinion on the HK AVR 630 used with The Epic 60 system (M60's,VP150,QS8's along with the EP150). Is 75 watts enough power for this system? Any other comments on this receiver? Thanks

Yes for sure!! That HK has more then enough power to push that system. Go all out.

That's the receiver I use and it's pushing 7 speakers. You should have no problem with that at all!

Jimmy,

I have the exact same setup with the exception that I got an SVS PC-Ultra instead of the EP150. I couldn't be happier. This setup kicks ass. All of my friends want to come over here now to watch movies, or to hang out and listen to tunes now. I really like it when one of them gets a new CD, and wants to check it out on a "killer high end system". That's their words, not mine. I feel like a proud new daddy.

Two of them were here the day the Axioms arrived. We unboxed the M60s and hooked them up. Both of them were teasing me about buying speakers that I had never seen, or heard before. 10 minutes after hooking them up, my one buddies said that he was going to get a set of Axioms after he finishes remodeling his house.

I still go to HT & audio stores, and listen to other speakers when I see a brand that I hadn't heard before. So far, NOTHING that I've heard has made me say "Damn. I wish I had bought these instead". I usually look at the price tags, and say "Wow! I got a great deal". The salesman hate it when I tell them that nothing in their store sounds better to me than my $800 speakers. They think I'm messing with them. I'm not!

Go for it. You'll be .

About what level do you typically have your AVR-630 set to when watching movies? I know it varies from title to title but I am curious if you could give me an estimate.

I have an AVR65 and listening to movies at a comfortable volume level yields an indicated level of -20db to about -15db.

I just got back from CompUsa and took a look at two newer HK receivers. One sold for $499 and the other for $599 but I can't remember the model numbers. The only movie they had to demo was The Goonies and to get similar sound levels I had to turn this receiver up to -10.

Are the newer models playing quieter than my older HK? I am about to upgrade to M60 fronts ant the VP100 (sp?) center channel and had toyed with the idea of upgrading my receiver, now I don't know.

I would wager that you heard the 130 and 230 (maybe the 330, but I didn't see a 330 at my local CompUSA). The 630 should be far more capable. My 525 has a comfortable listening level between -35 to -25.

Depens on your speakers too....If you have 95-96 Sensitivity then your volume level will be much lower.

Oh yeah. I was a little surprised to see them, too. They also sell bigscreens.
